The Hungry Heart Café is a full service restaurant and catering business located at historic Rawlin's Cross in St. We focus on creating nutritious meals that are full of flavor. In addition to the restaurant, we offer extensive catering options. But the Hungry Heart Café is much more. As an initiative of Stella's Circle, we help Stella's Circle participants get trained and experienced in the food industry. Every penny of profit generated by the Hungry Heart Café goes right back into the operation to fund Stella's Circle employment training programs. Learn more at www.StellasCircle.ca.

This past week, our Manager of Social Enterprises Julia Bloomquist was happy to deliver compost from Our Table, home to the Hungry Heart as well as multiple enterprises of Food First NL including Avalon Food Hub and Food on the Move, over to our neighbours at Caribou Legion Manor 🌱

This compost, collected from all the different social enterprises located here in Pleasantville, is a big help for the vegetable gardens built here at Caribou Legion by the Stella’s Circle Green Team and maintained by the wonderful residents. Just like a well-maintained ecosystem, it’s great to have an opportunity to see how all our enterprises are interconnected 🤝

The Hungry Heart Café and Avalon Food Hub are proud to present our entry for the pickle competition at O'Brien Farm this weekend, created by our fabulous chef Brian Hewitt— you could say we’re in our giardiniera era 💅

A huge thank you to mauzy Lester's Farm Market Murrays Garden Centre Seed to Spoon for their wonderful fresh ingredients. This local pickle was made with love, and who knows… maybe you’ll see it for sale at the Food Hub soon 👀

Have you ever wondered who's behind the beautiful flower arrangements on our café tables? 💐

Meet Kent, a resident of Caribou Legion Manor, one of Stella's Circle's affordable housing programs. We recently had the chance to tour the gardens around the building, where Kent and many other residents are growing flowers as well as fresh foods like onions, green beans, rhubarb, and some adorable potatoes 🥔

We're so thankful for people like Kent who generously take the time out of their day to beautify our space and share some of the great work going on at our many Stella's Circle spaces here in St. John's. Keep an eye out for him here at the café in Pleasantville— you may even spot him working on one of his fantastic paintings 👨‍🎨
