We have our classic maple walnut as our community doughnut in support of Squamish Helping Hands.
Since 2006, Squamish Helping Hands Society (SHHS) has been a community hub offering varied services such as transitional housing, emergency shelter, outreach care, a medical clinic, a certified kitchen, and a food bank. Each day, we provide nutritious food by rescuing items from local businesses to reduce food waste and feed our community, warm beds for people experiencing homelessness, and tailored support for participants to achieve personal goals as they move towards stability and independence. We work with 20 grocers, retailers, and farmers to rescue food that reduces waste and provides on-site meals, deliveries of Meals on Wheels for seniors and mobility-impaired individuals, and supplies for our food bank. Every connection brings us closer to a safe and healthy community for all.
As a registered charity, our community hub offers:
39 units of supported housing
16 emergency shelter beds
an additional 15 beds in emergency weather
a primary care clinic working with 307 people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
a certified kitchen serving an average of 3,313 meals per month using rescued food
229 Meals on Wheels deliveries per month
an average of 19,365 pounds of food rescued each month
900 to 1500 loads of laundry per month
An average of 921 visits each month to the Squamish Food Bank
