New art hanging at the cafe! 🖼️🎨

We’re excited to announce two very talented artists showcasing their art through the months of September to December! 💫

✨Rebecca Girouard✨
Rebecca’s work always has an atmospheric quality, whether she is working in Pastel, Acrylic or Watercolour. Scenes of our forest and seas are most prominent in her paintings and provide an opportunity for a journey. Her work is most often seen at a distance and not up close. Rebecca’s work has been shown and sold in the Sooke Fine Arts Show and the SAC Gallery.

✨Tracie Clayton✨
An oceanside mixed-media abstract landscape visual artist and Reiki Master, Tracie creates from The Minotaur Studio, a name reimagined from her father’s art gallery when she was a child. Her father remains her earliest and most enduring artistic influence and the studio’s name carries that creative lineage forward while allowing Tracie to make it entirely her own.

Art is available for purchase at the cafe! Relax with a cozy beverage and enjoy the new creative works. 🫖🪴

What an amazing turnout we had for the Play Music on the Porch day! It was a success, and we had a wonderful time hosting the event! We want to thank Katherine Strongwind and Allie from The Music Room for organizing the event, as well as the performers ; Ben Goerner, Willis Taylor, Thomas P. Radcliffe, and Allie. Musicians are tagged, go check them out! We hope to see you all again next year!

We want to acknowledge and apologize for a performance that took place at Cafe Vosino on Wednesday August 19.

The performer included misogynistic and violent content in their set and repeatedly used the n-word. We are sorry that we, Cafe Vosino, provided the platform for that performance, and we take responsibility for not adequately vetting the artist beforehand, and at least failing to communicate appropriate expectations for performers at our venue. The performance did not reflect the values of our organization or the kind of community spaces we work to create.

As a community organization, we have a responsibility to think carefully about whose work we platform and what we implicitly endorse by providing that platform. We appreciate the artists, musicians, community organizations and audiences who have helped make live performance an important part of Cafe Vosino, and we remain committed to supporting live music, including music that challenges us, while doing so responsibly.

The event organiser, Sooke Radio Society, has agreed to work with us to ensure any future events and bookings are appropriate for our venue and audience. They also did step up in the moment to set the expectation with the artist that if this continued they would be asked to cease performing.

We have learned from this, and moving forward performers will be vetted before being booked. We remain committed to supporting live music and challenging art while being more thoughtful and responsible about what we choose to platform.

🍞 A little sourdough reminder!

Just a reminder that there will be no fresh Peasant Bread Co. sourdough tomorrow (Saturday).

Our new bread delivery days are Wednesday, Thursday & Friday each week.

🥖 Want to make sure you get a loaf? You can pre-order bread on our website for Wednesday pickup!

And we still have quite a few loaves left today — come grab one while it’s fresh! ❤️
