Just a reminder that the concert for the Port Hilford Old School House is happening tonight at the Indian Harbour Lake Community Centre.

Doors open at 6:30 and the music starts at 7:00, with Max MacDonald, Michael Porter, Gary Jordan, Joey Jordan, the Sherbrooke Market Musicians and more.

Come out for a lovely evening of music, show your support and help us look after this wonderful little piece of our history. Donations will be accepted for the continued maintenance of the schoolhouse, and there will be light refreshments after the music.

Let’s give them a great crowd tonight!

Fall is here, things are starting to slow down, and we’ve made the decision to slow things down a little at Beanie’s too.

For the next while we’ll be open Tuesday to Saturday, 9–2, and closed Sunday and Monday.

It’s been a long year and I think we need a bit of a breather around here. Some time to regroup, get caught up, get some energy back and figure out what we want the next few months at Beanie’s to look like and I think they’re going to be fun.

We haven’t done nearly as many events this year as we normally do, and we’ve missed them. We’re going to start changing that! There are events coming back, some things already in the works, and probably a few ideas I haven’t even thought of yet.

For now though, we’re going to slow down a little, take the extra time we need, and get ready for a really great fall and winter at Beanie’s.

Tuesday to Saturday, 9–2.
Sunday and Monday, we’re closed.

This is pretty exciting for our community!

St. Mary’s Arts Connection Council is a new group doing some really wonderful things to bring more arts and creative opportunities to our area, and this October workshop is a great example.

A whole weekend of songwriting, music, collaboration and creativity, right here in Sherbrooke with some incredibly talented mentors along for the ride.

We love seeing new ideas and new energy happening in our community, and we’re pretty excited to see where SMACC takes things.

Beanie’s will remain closed today, Monday, August 17th.

I’m sorry for the last minute change, especially for anyone who had plans to come see us today. One of the realities of running a small business is that sometimes when I need to step away, Beanie’s needs to take a day too.
I have an appointment that I’ve decided I need to keep. I’m not always very good at putting myself first and sometimes taking care of myself means actually keeping the appointments I’m supposed to keep.

Thank you for being patient with us when things don’t always go according to plan. I really do appreciate it.
I’ll take care of myself today, and we’ll be back at it tomorrow.

What a night!
We’re not even sure where to begin with the thank yous after last night’s incredible concert.

First and foremost our community!
You never cease to amaze me. The generosity, the caring, the love, and the way this community simply shows up when someone needs us makes me so incredibly proud to be a part of it.

Last night was another reminder of just how special this little corner of the world really is.

To Sherbrooke Village thank you for always being there for our community. For opening your doors, jumping in, lending a hand and helping make things happen when they matter most. We are fortunate to have you.

To Lanny Boyer and Elle Clarabut— a massive thank you for all of the organizing, the time, the work and the heart you put into last night. You truly made it come alive, and what you created was incredibly special.

To every single performer who shared their talent with us! What a magical evening. Stew would have loved every minute of it. You gave us an evening filled with music, laughter, memories and love, and we can’t thank you enough for that.

To Joanne, Harley and Alice who kept the concessions going and kept us all fed and watered, thank you! And a special mention has to go to what may very well be the best lemonade in Sherbrooke. On a hot night like last night, I’m pretty sure it saved a few of us!

To Amy Simon and BJ for taking on the online auction. I had absolutely no idea how much work one of those was until I started watching it happen! The amount of time and organization that has gone into it is incredible. You have done an amazing job, and it is so very appreciated.

And to everyone who donated, bid, bought, helped, shared, showed up, carried something, moved something, cleaned something, or simply asked, “What can I do?” thank you! So many people played a part in making this happen.

We do have one little favour to ask everyone who was there last night…

In all of the organizing and running around, we forgot one fairly important detail, pictures!

Tomorrow, Beanie’s will not be open for regular service.

Instead, we’ll be joining Gabby, the family, friends, and our community in celebrating the life of Stew.

After the Sherbrooke Saturday Market, everyone is invited to gather on Main Street between 24 Main Street, where Stew and Gabby made their home, and 27 Main Street, Beanie’s. We’ll have refreshments available, but more importantly, we’ll have a place to gather.

There is no schedule, no speeches, and no formal program. Just time together.

Come by, share a story, have a laugh, shed a tear, enjoy a coffee, and spend some time with the people whose lives Stew touched. Whether you knew him for years or simply shared a conversation across the counter, you’re welcome.

Stew had a remarkable way of bringing people together. Tomorrow, we’ll honour him by doing exactly that surrounding Gabby and the family with the community that loved him so much.

If you’re unable to join us tomorrow, we hope you’ll attend the upcoming concert on Thursday, in Stew’s honour, celebrating his life while supporting Gabby and the family.

We’ll see you after the market.
