On a cold snowy day like today our hearts are set on the future…❄️

We may not be open just yet, but we’re hard at work behind the scenes creating the kinds of things that warm you right up, buttery croissant sandwiches, cozy savoury bites, and indulgent dessert croissants fresh from the kitchen.

As the seasons change, so will our menu. We’re excited to offer seasonal features throughout the year, inspired by fresh ingredients, comfort foods, and little moments worth savouring.

We also want everyone to feel welcome at the table, which is why we’ll be offering gluten-free and vegan baked goods alongside our regular menu.

Snowy days, warm food and a space made for gathering, we can’t wait to share it all with you 🤍

We stepped back from our professions. Not because it was easy.Not because it was safe. But because we believe our community deserves something more. There will always be another reason to wait. Another “someday.” Another moment that feels safer. But life opens up when you take the chance to begin. We’re building something warm, meaningful and rooted in community, for families, caregivers, littles and everyone in between. Here’s to taking a chance on ourselves. 🌿 A little behind-the-scenes from Thistle & Tots🌿 We’ve been working hard in the space every day, slowly bringing this dream to life. This past week was all about our bench seating, building, adjusting, and making sure it feels as warm and welcoming as possible. Every detail matters to us, because this space is being created for our community. A place where families, caregivers and littles can feel comfortable the moment they walk through the door. We’re getting closer, one step at a time.

🥐 A Bakery Sneak Peek at Thistle & Tots 🥐
As we prepare to open Thistle & Tots Play Café & Education Centre, we’re excited to begin sharing some of the bakery items you’ll find in our space! Thoughtfully made, comforting and meant to be enjoyed together.
The first picture is The Heatherhill Cheesecake Croissant
A flaky butter croissant filled with:
• Whipped cheesecake cream
• Our Nana’s Scottish strawberry compote
• Fresh strawberries
• Light powdered sugar finish
A sweet treat rooted in tradition and made with care.

A savory croissant featuring:
• Smoked salmon
• Herb-infused cream cheese
• Capers
• Fresh microgreens
Offering a fresh and balanced mix, perfect for a relaxed lunch or mid-day pause.

Hello Bright’s Grove & Sarnia–Lambton!
I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share the heart behind Thistle & Tots Play Café & Education Centre.
I’m a teacher, and over the years I’ve had the privilege of teaching and coaching thousands of children. Watching them grow has been one of the greatest joys of my life. Along the way, I’ve also noticed something quietly slipping away, imaginative play, open-ended exploration, and the simple magic that happens when children are given time, space, and trust to learn through curiosity.

The name Thistle & Tots is rooted in Scottish tradition. The thistle symbolizes strength, resilience, and protection and that’s exactly what we hope this space will be: a place that gently protects childhood, nurtures confidence, and wraps families in a sense of belonging.

My husband and I have dreamed about our future, we kept coming back to the same question: What opportunities exist for littles in our community and what’s missing? Thistle & Tots grew from a deep desire to create meaningful opportunities for young children where there simply haven’t been enough and to build something lasting for the community we love.

Located in Bright’s Grove, Thistle & Tots will be a play café and community gathering space created for everyone, parents, grandparents, caregivers, educators, and little ones alike. A space where children can play freely and imaginatively, and where adults can slow down, connect, and feel welcome.

A warm, inclusive environment where everyone belongs

We also want to say how much we’ve loved the curiosity already. Seeing friendly faces stop by the storefront on their walks, peeking in, waving, and asking questions about the space has meant more to us than you know. Those small conversations have reminded us exactly why we’re doing this, we’re here for you, and we truly want to work with our community to help both little and big dreams take shape.
Thistle & Tots is for the big moments, birthday parties, celebrations, milestones and also the quiet, meaningful ones: morning coffees, first friendships, heart-to-heart chats, and those beautiful moments when a child becomes completely lost in play.

This space is our love letter to childhood and to the village it takes to raise it. We can’t wait to open our doors and welcome you in.
