Earlier this year, local media reported that Walcan Seafood faced charges under the Fisheries Act. We’re pleased to share the outcome: on September 10, 2025, after an extensive 11-day trial, Walcan was fully acquitted on all counts.
The Court made multiple findings in our favour, noted inconsistencies in officer testimony, and made rulings in favour of Walcan. Crown counsel ultimately requested that the court acquit Walcan on all charges because there was no reliable evidence, which the court granted.
For more than 50 years, Walcan has proudly operated as a trusted local employer and a reputable global supplier of premium seafood. We have never before faced charges of this nature, and we’re grateful the Court has affirmed what we’ve always maintained — that Walcan operates responsibly, ethically, and with integrity.
To our customers, suppliers, fishers, employees, and community partners: thank you for your continued trust and support. We remain focused on the future — serving our community, respecting the resource we all depend on, and delivering the quality Canadian seafood our global customers expect.
