Over the last 10 years, we've been fortunate to work alongside some truly incredible people.

Some worked with us for just a season, while others have been part of the journey for many years. Every single one has helped shape Gabi & Jules into what it is today.

These are just a few of the amazing people who've been part of our story over the years.

They're the early mornings.

The market days.

The pie makers.

The cookie scoopers.

The delivery drivers.

The dishwashers.

The ones who remember your name, celebrate your milestones, and care about this little bakery as if it were their own.

One of the things we're proudest of isn't a pie or a building...

It's the team we've built together.

To everyone who has ever worn a Gabi & Jules apron—whether for a few months or many years—thank you.

You helped make this place what it is today. ❤️

Chapter 5 – The Pies That Started It All

One of the things we loved about creating Gabi & Jules was that it gave us the freedom to play.

If you know , you'll know our menu has more than a few sacred items. 😄 There are things our customers simply won't let us change. (Seriously... we once tried replacing the Zucchini Oat Muffin and there was almost a riot.)

When we started Gabi & Jules, we wanted it to be different. We wanted a business that gave us the freedom to experiment, be inspired by the seasons, and constantly create something new.

Thankfully, pie turned out to be the perfect canvas.

Over the past 11 years, we've dreamed up hundreds of flavours. Some became instant classics (looking at you, Blueberry Earl Grey, which shattered our Mother's Day sales record the first year we introduced it). Others... well... we absolutely loved them, but apparently we were the only ones. 😂 It's still a little heartbreaking to think about some of the incredible pies that just never found their audience (y'all really missed out on Cranberry Orange - just saying).

Then there are the pies that had their moment. They were once customer favourites, but over time tastes changed and they quietly disappeared from the menu to make room for new creations.

One of the greatest joys of has been tasting, tweaking, testing, and occasionally discovering something completely unexpected (though some failures - Green Matcha Pie 🤢 - are burned into our memories).

Every pie we've made—whether it lasted one season or became a permanent fixture—has been part of the journey that shaped Gabi & Jules.

Now we need your help...

🥧 Which retired Gabi & Jules pie do you miss the most?

With our 10th Anniversary Celebration coming up on September 12 & 13, we're looking for a little inspiration. You never know... your favourite just might make a comeback. 😉❤️

Chapter 4 - Pie with a Purpose 🩷

As we mentioned in Chapter 3, our journey to becoming an inclusive employer actually began before we even had a Gabi & Jules bakery.

Aaron joined us in those early days helping build our pie boxes (which, back then, were ridiculously complicated!). He mastered the job in no time and quickly became an important part of our little team.

As we got closer to opening the bakery, I had a chance conversation with a long-time customer. He shared how his company had made a global commitment to inclusion, with a particular focus on neurodiversity.
I remember thinking, if a company that large could make inclusion a priority, why couldn't we?

Because of our own personal connection to the autism community, we decided that from day one we'd intentionally create opportunities for autistic individuals.

We had no roadmap.

There were plenty of mistakes, lots of learning, and many moments where we had to rethink our approach. But with the incredible support of partners like and their amazing job coaches, we learned how to create roles that played to people's strengths instead of expecting everyone to fit the same mould.

Over the years, something unexpected happened.

By making inclusion one of our values, we attracted people who shared those values. Our team naturally became incredibly diverse, filled with kind, compassionate people from all walks of life. While we're certainly not perfect, we're proud of the culture we've built together—one where people feel seen, supported, and accepted for who they are.

People often ask us what the biggest benefit of inclusive hiring has been.

The answer is simple.

We get to come to work every day surrounded by some of the kindest, hardest-working, and most genuine people you could ever hope to meet.
That's been the greatest gift of all. ❤️

Chapter 3 – A Brand is Born

One of the questions we're asked most often is, "How did Gabi & Jules get started?" The answer is... like many good stories, it started with an unexpected conversation.

It all goes back to 2014. During a performance evaluation with one of our bakers, we asked what we could do to help them enjoy their job more. Their answer? "Let me make pie."

That one simple comment planted a seed.

At the time, we were looking for ways to better utilize the kitchen at Caffè Divano in Port Moody, and realized there might be an opportunity to bring really great pie to the Tri-Cities. Looking back now, it's amazing how one conversation changed the course of our business.

Starting Gabi & Jules was very different from opening our cafés. We already had a commercial kitchen, so instead of investing heavily in equipment, we invested in building a brand.

We hired a branding company to help develop our identity, but none of the proposed names felt quite right. Then one day we thought, why not name it after our daughters? And just like that, Gabi & Jules was born.

The first few photos in this carousel are from our very first Gabi & Jules photoshoot. It was the first time our little idea felt real.

Shortly afterwards, we began selling at the in May 2015. Every pie was made in the kitchen at Caffè Divano in Port Moody, and before long we'd outgrown the space. We even rented extra rooms in the building for storage and a makeshift office.

And because there was nowhere else to do it... we built pie boxes in the hallway. That hallway also became the beginning of something much bigger. Aaron took on the job of building pie boxes and became the very first person on what would grow into our inclusive employment journey. More than 10 years later, he's still one of our fastest (and most meticulous!) box builders. ❤️

The story of how inclusive employment became such an important part of Gabi & Jules deserves its own chapter...

📖 Join us next week for Chapter 4: Pie With a Purpose. ❤️

Chapter 2 – Building the Bakery

It definitely took some vision to see the potential in this empty, boarded-up building... but Patrick saw it.

Every morning on his way to our Burnaby Caffè Divano, he'd drive past the "For Sale" sign and couldn't shake the feeling that this could be the perfect place for Gabi & Jules to grow. At the time, we were baking out of the kitchen at Caffè Divano in Port Moody and had already outgrown the space.

With the help of our incredibly talented friends at , the vision slowly (and we really mean slowly!) started to come together. We had so much fun hunting for vintage pieces, and the wall of old doors remains one of our favourite features in the bakery. It sounded a little crazy when Laura first suggested it, but we're so glad we trusted her.
Bit by bit, we watched an empty shell transform into the bakery you know today.

Looking back now, we can't help but laugh at the original kitchen layout. It really shows how little we knew about what we were doing—but that's probably not surprising considering we opened a pie shop without ever having made a pie before. (Don't worry... we'll save that story for another chapter. 😉)

And while this place felt enormous back then, over the last 10 years we've knocked down walls, rearranged equipment, and stretched every square foot to keep up with our growing team and all the pies coming out of the ovens.

It's amazing what can happen when you start with a little vision, a lot of hard work, and maybe just a touch of blind optimism. ❤️

Today officially marks 10 years since we opened the doors to our little bakery in Port Moody.

On July 25, 2016, after nearly a year of construction, countless challenges, and more than a few sleepless nights, we welcomed our very first customers. We had big dreams but really had no idea what was ahead of us.

Looking back now, it's hard to believe everything that's happened over the last decade. There have been incredible highs, unexpected challenges, moments that tested us, and moments that reminded us exactly why we started Gabi & Jules in the first place.

Over the next few weeks, we'd love to take you along on that journey. We'll be sharing photos, memories, behind-the-scenes stories, and some of the moments that have shaped G&J into what it is today. We hope you'll enjoy looking back with us.

To every customer who has ordered a pie, grabbed a coffee, celebrated a milestone with us, shared our story, or simply cheered us on along the way—thank you. We truly wouldn't be here without this incredible community.

While today marks our official anniversary, we're saving the party for September 12 & 13! 🎉

We’ll be bringing back some old-school G&J favourites, celebrating our original Grand Opening (September 14, 2016), and planning plenty of specials, giveaways, and surprises. We hope you'll mark your calendars and celebrate with us.

Until then… here’s to 10 years of Flaky Crusts. Solid Values. And the incredible community that made it all possible. ❤️
