It is with a heavy heart that I announce that after 22 years, Scooperman Ice Cream Parlour will be closing it's door for good. It's still hard to believe that a summer job that my parents financed to help me get through my university years became a career that I spent more than half my life working at.
My lingering health issues have made continuing running the business extremely difficult. Scooping ice cream around my three times weekly dialysis sessions proved to be unbelievably hard in 2017 and was not something I was looking forward to in 2018.
First and foremost, I would like to thank my parents, Jim and Margaret Watson for supporting me since Day 1 of Scooperman Ice Cream Parlour, without whom the business would never have seen the light of day.
Next, I would like to thank all the amazing young people that worked as my scooping staff over the last 22 years. I was often a first job employer and it was remarkable to see the growth in maturity in my young staff in their time at Scooperman Ice Cream Parlour.
Finally, I would like to thank all the locals and tourists who supported the business for 22 years. It was quite an honour to become part of family summer vacation traditions, soccer team victory celebrations, and in general watch members of the community grow up before my eyes.
Scooperman Ice Cream Parlour was something that I was always incredibly proud to have created. Scooperman had been the defining part of my life since I was 21 years old. It will be with a great deal of sadness that I bring this chapter of my life to a close.
I have no idea what the future holds for me (I sure hope it's a new kidney), but I will always look upon the past with a smile on my face.
Thank you all for your support of Scooperman Ice Cream Parlour (1996-2017).
Kyle
