"When I was first diagnosed with MS, I kept it to myself and tried to figure it all out on my own. I eventually realized the importance of community and that the more you share, the more people want to understand and support you. It also helps to hear from others living with MS and learn from their experiences.
Something I love about Burgers to Beat MS is that it brings Canadians together from coast to coast to support the MS community, and it's a fun and easy way for friends and family to get involved. I also love getting the chance to meet A&W franchisees and staff each year. It's nice to hear why they support the cause and for them to hear my story and be able to connect a face to the disease.
Last year my mom joined me on Burgers to Beat MS Day. MS doesn't just affect the person living with the disease; it also affects family members. Burgers to Beat MS is a great way to acknowledge them too. I think we all appreciate the outpouring of support.
MS can look different for everyone. It's a tough disease to live with. Funds raised through Burgers to Beat MS go towards MS research. I've probably benefited from advances in research more than I know, and I'm hopeful that continued research will bring us closer to a cure."
