A family owned and operated business serving great homemade Asian inspired fair in an eclectic dining atmosphere. "The Shang" as its affectionately called by friends, has found a niche bringing together the business and arts communities. Over the years, Shanghai has been host to countless community events, fundraisers and local charities such as China China Doll KARAOKE Saturdays, Bingo, Spelling Bees, Comedy Nights, Comic Jam, and more. A long time supporter of the arts, Shanghai regularly exhibits artwork by local and sometimes not so local artists. The restaurant has become an unofficial hub for foodies, artists, musicians and performers alike, providing a nurturing contemporary space that strives to includes all members of our community. Shang’s window is being activated with history , ceramics and art.

Join the Rejoinery, artists Dan Hammill and Don Kwan for a community art installation in the window of the historic, Shanghai Restaurant. The assemblage is an eclectic memory box, a collaborative installation that honours collective memory and material histories as sources of beauty and utility. Featuring the artwork of and .dan amidst a curated collection of pottery and salvaged architectural and furniture pieces from The Rejoinery, it celebrates the endurance of Ottawa’s Chinatown community. As an imagined interior, we hope it inspires you to connect with people and cherished objects from your own past. We ask you to linger and consider adding a piece of this assemblage to your own collection. Scan the QR codes for more information on the artwork and objects.
