A time capsule from 1961! Whattaway to end the day at Hillcrest High School 65th anniversary! That's like before the internet, before Google and before a lotta stuff!

Come one come all and come see what's in the capsule!

And enjoy a dairy or vegan scoop from The Merry Dairy's "young" vintage ice cream truck, manufactured in 1976, back when Hillcrest was a mere 15 years old!

What could be more thrilling for the students and staff of Hillcrest High School than the discovery of a 65-year-old “time capsule” on the eve of the high school’s 65th anniversary!

Alumni (and interested members of the public) are invited to come together for this 65th anniversary celebration, and check out the contents of the time capsule, and other memorabilia from Hillcrest’s six and half decades, on Friday June 5, between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Back at its opening in 1961, in Ottawa’s pre-amalgamation era, Hillcrest High School’s Smythe Road site was thought to be at the highest elevation in the city, thus the school's name.

Hillcrest been just the latest among Ottawa's “building boom” of high schools in, the fifth in the past five years built in an attempt to keep up with the post-war baby boom era.

Hillcrest’s 65-year-old time capsule was discovered by construction workers last December.

Congratulations to the students, staff and alumni on your school’s 65th anniversary… and we look forward to seeing first-hand the contents of that time capsule from so long ago!
