Fever Pitch Hot Jazz is Back NEXT WEEK!

Friday August 28, Doors at 8:30pm. Jazz starts 9pm.

Art House is proud to present the hottest of jazz shows in the city on the last Friday of every month! Let the Capital City Stompers quartet take you back to the 1920s for New Orleans-style jazz that blends the playful spirit of ragtime, the sweet magic of the blues, and swinging energy of brass bands.

Please not, this is a full house event. Your ticket guarantees you a seat in the house but not necessarily a seat with a direct line of sight to the performers. We recommend coming early to snag a spot or if you need accommodations, like a guaranteed seat for accessibility reasons, to please email us at [email protected] at least 72 hours before the event.

A little snapshot from last week's vernissage featuring "IN-BETWEEN" by Iya Carson. Miss the opening? You can still come see the exhibition! Iya's fantastic watercolour collection is on display this month in our back gallery room all this month, plus this collection will be extending it's stay into September!

Be sure to come out and admire Iya's work and this collection that celebrates Ottawa, memories, transition, and what can be achieved with watercolour paint and a limited colour palette.

About the Artist:
Iya Carson is a Canadian artist and educator based in Pakenham, Ontario. Working primarily in watercolour, she creates atmospheric landscapes that explore themes of memory, place, and the emotional resonance of everyday experience. Her paintings are characterized by subtle tonal relationships, granulating pigments, and a balance between careful observation and expressive interpretation.

A graduate of the Ural Academy of Architecture and Industrial Design, Iya brings together her backgrounds in Fine Art and Architecture to create works that unite structural awareness with the fluid, unpredictable nature of watercolour. Her practice is deeply rooted in the landscapes of the Ottawa Valley, where shifting light, changing seasons, and quiet rural spaces provide ongoing inspiration.

Iya is the founder of Ottawa Valley Art Studio, where she teaches both in-person and online courses in drawing and painting. Through her teaching, she has mentored hundreds of students, helping them develop strong observational skills, technical confidence, and personal artistic expression.

Her award-winning work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is held in private collections across Canada, the United States, Europe, and Australia. Through both her studio practice and educational work, Iya seeks to foster a deeper appreciation for beauty, observation, and the meaningful connections that emerge between people and the landscapes they inhabit.
