A story about celebrating summer fruits from our Founder and CEO, Carley:

“My favourite summer fruit is wild blueberries. These tiny, tart and sweet wild jewels are quite simply a summer gift and a true luxury of indulgence. I remember finding out as a teenager the cost of a large basket of wild blueberries bought by my best friend’s mother. I was shocked to learn it cost as much as a pair of jeans I was coveting!

When I tasted her pie, however, I would have traded in that new pair of jeans for another slice of wild blueberry heaven. I was hooked. And there was even more pleasure in that indulgence as I knew those berries were fleeting and only here for a certain time. Then and there I realized I would begin a long love affair with food, appreciating the investment in quality ingredients and eating seasonally.

I always make a point of making a fruit dessert at least once or twice a summer, but especially when guests visit in August, when the peaches are at their peak, and the wild blueberries are readily sourced. My favourite is a recipe from a very dog-eared Ina Garten cookbook.
