When I design a wedding cake, I never want to design it in isolation đ I want to know where itâs going to sit. What the room feels like. What the flowers look like. What the bride is wearing. What story the entire wedding is trying to tell.
And Abby and Hudsonâs cake might be one of my favourite examples of that!
Their wedding was held at the beautiful Norland Historic Estate â stately, grand and filled with the kind of historic architecture that already feels like it has stories to tell. It also happened to fit Abby perfectly! đ
Her vision for the wedding had this wonderfully old-world, collected, slightly unexpected vintage feel to it. Not vintage in a perfectly polished way, but in that romantic, almost kitschy way weâre seeing come back again â ornate details, cherubs, swans and pieces that feel as though they could have been discovered in an old European home.
So the cake needed to feel like it belonged there too.
We leaned into vintage piping and ornamental details, and tucked cherubs into the design â which carried an extra little bit of meaning for me because my own wedding cake had cherubs on it all those years ago.
I love that what once belonged to another era is finding its way back again, interpreted completely differently by this generation đ And somehow, that felt especially right for my daughterâs wedding. A little bit old, a little bit new, very much Abby! And completely at home at The Norland.
This is why I talk so much about designing a wedding cake as part of the whole wedding aesthetic. The cake doesnât just need to be beautiful, it needs to look like it was always meant to be there!
