šŸ“¢Calling all thrift store/ garage sale lovers!

With the remaining bistro items available, we have decided to open the space up from 8am-8pm on Friday and Saturday to showcase our remaining assets!

As much as we have loved connecting with all of you on the page, we think some of these smaller items would be more easily purchased in person.

We have lots of dishes, small kitchen items and cooking / baking utensils still available for grabs šŸ™‚

We will be accepting cash, e-transfer and cheques for any purchases.

So if you have some free time this Friday and Saturday, swing by Bistro 290, grab yourself a deal, and help use in closing out this chapteršŸ™‚

When I made the hard decision to close the bistro, I had a goal, find a new bright-eyed restauranteur. Whether that be some who wanted to own a cafe, bakery, sandwich shop, or Greek restaurant, we genuinely just wanted to find someone who would do something amazing with the space ✨

That dream has fizzled away and as of December 30th, our bistro assets will no longer reside in 290 Main Street, Niverville.

This is not what we hoped for, but as always, we are trying to make lemonade with the lemons we’ve been handed.

To help facilitate the sale of all bistro assets, we’ve created an Instagram account (link in bio)- all available assets will be showcased on this page along with their price. Time is not on our side and we are looking to sell as much as we can before December 30, 2021.

This community has been with us from the beginning. You’ve been a light in some really difficult times and we appreciate our bistro friends more than you’ll ever know. We’ve enjoyed riding the high of highs and leaning on each other during the low of lows. This is just another speed bump we are experiencing as we close out our wild bistro chapter.

SO friends, please help us by sharing this post, tagging your friends, and maybe getting a deal on something for yourself. We will have everything from plates to tables, ovens to freezers available for purchase.Ā

**We would love your help to spread the word!**

As most of you know, the bistro closed its doors at the end of October.

But as the ol sayings goes, when one door closes another door opens. The bistro is looking for a new owner! Someone who has a passion for great food, enjoys being around wonderful people and has a community mindset.

If you or someone you know is interested in opening a little restaurant, cafe, bakery or coffee shop in one of the best communities around, please reach out to
[email protected]

Here is the official bistro listing: https://bit.ly/3BBHfc9 (which is also included in our IG bio)

We look forward to hearing from you!

I know change is difficult and if you’re among the group who enjoyed what the bistro offered, the news of us closing down may have been disappointing. But please believe me when I say, the decision to close down was complex. It was a build up of everyday stresses of running a restaurant, covid related constraints and overall exhaustion (mentally, physically and emotionally).

With all that being said, I will walk away from the bistro having learnt so much and I will forever be grateful for this opportunity. Amongst global madness, we not only weathered the storm, we managed to grow our little bistro. We pivoted, pivoted and pivoted again. We made time for laughter and always tried to be a light during dark times.

My personal favourite moment has ironically been this last week. Of course I’m sad to see this chapter of my life come to an end. But in this one week, we were flooded with so much love. The kind words people shared with us about what they loved most about the bistro has been so incredibly heartwarming and so incredibly appreciated.

As our bistro adventure comes to an end, my goal is to find a new group of restaurateurs to pass the baton to. Whether they continue with what we’ve built or start something new, this space is special and I know whoever takes it on next will do great things ā™„ļø

Lastly, I can’t say it enough. THANK YOU! Thank you for all the support. Thank you to my amazing staff (new and old) who kicked šŸ‘Thank you to my friends and family for all the additional help. It took a small village to keep the bistro running and I’ll miss you all dearly.

Happy last day everyone 🄲

Today’s spotlight is on the bistro’s secret weapon. The woman who is the calm to my storm. The yin to my yang. Mrs. Brittnie Friesen.

Some of you may not know this, but Britt and I worked together at the local chicken chef 10 years ago. She was an incredible cook then and when she agreed to join the bistro team in June 2020, I knew we hit the jackpot. Since joining the team, Britt has taken on a head cook role and has been the culinary skills behind most of the take-home meals, specials and vegan/gluten free soups that you’ve grown to love.

When I asked Britt what her favourite part about working at the bistro was, she responded with our ability to make time for laughter. Whether that be impromptu kitchen dances or songs, tiktok videos or our daily stories - we were always down for a good giggle.

Oh Brittnie, I will miss our early mornings together, hectic lunch hours and everything in between. You’ve been the glue that has kept this place running for the last year and a half and I will forever be grateful for the time we got to spend together.

PS. Keep an eye out, our talented chef says that her next journey in life will be launching an online store to sell her art work. Yup, that’s right, this incredible human is not only an amazing cook, she is also a talented artist! ā™„ļø

When we were coming out of the first shutdown in 2020, we knew we needed to hire more staff. The Manitoba Government had launched the Student Recovery Jobs Program which was a wage subsidy that promoted the hiring of students in hopes to help employ youth and help Manitoba employers impacted by covid.

The bistro brought on a team of summer students which included Jersey, Rhea and Teaghan. These young ladies have seen the bistro at it’s highest of highs and lowest of lows and I feel so incredibly fortunate that they stuck by the bistro all this time.

When I asked them what they enjoyed most about the bistro, their answers were so wholesome. Jersey responded that she really enjoyed a cook off between her and Rhea 🄲Teags responded that it was the relationships with the staff and regulars she would miss most🄲Rhea responded with that time we spent a whole shift cutting potatoes and learning 11th grade biology togetheršŸ˜‚

What I will miss most about these 3 is their kind hearts. These young ladies cared for the bistro, and it showed every time they walked through the doors. They cared for each other, the customers, and never lost site for what I wanted to accomplish with the bistro.

Rhea, Jersey and Teags- you all will go on to accomplish incredible things in your life and I can’t wait to cheer you on from the sidelines.

Thank you for everythingā™„ļø ā™„ļø ā™„ļø

The last week at the bistro has been a bit nutty, but in the best way.

A couple of quick, important reminders.
1. Please use your bistro gift-cards! These will become invalid as of Saturday, October 30th
2. If you plan on joining us for lunch, we encourage you to make a reservation ahead of time. We have been filling up and we absolutely hate having to turn anyone away.
3. If you plan on taking out food throughout the day, we highly recommend pre-ordering.
4. Don’t forget, we will still have our extended hours this week! We will be open this Thursday and Friday night until 10pm and Saturday from 9am-2pm.

Thank you to everyone for making this our busiest week yet!

Today’s bistro spotlight is on Matheus.

Matheus joined the team in January 2021 and became our lunch and evening cook. But the job title didn’t stop there, because we were such a small team earlier this year, Matheus got to learn all the front of house jobs too and sometimes act a bit like a human octopus- jumping between the kitchen and dining room ( !)

When I asked Matheus what his favourite memory was from the past 10 months, it was no surprise that he said when we turned our patio into Matheus’ BBQ pit. Some of you may remember this interesting pivot we made at the end of May, when we were rocking though our 3rd shutdown šŸ˜…

We had a beautiful patio that couldn’t be used for dining so we got a BBQ, planned out a small BBQ lunch menu and ran this for 3 weeks. The BBQ pit project was Matheus’ bistro baby, and he absolutely killed it.

Matheus, your ability to adapt, hustle hard and stay positive (even amongst chaos) is what I will miss most about you. I know your culinary career doesn’t stop here, so I can’t wait to visit you wherever you decide to work next!

PS. Thanks for always being there for a good laugh.

As we enter our last week, I wanted to document some of the staffs favourite bistro memories.

Today we are shining the spotlight on Mrs. Tina Bell. Tina worked with the previous owner and decided to stay on with us in March 2020. She was the only staff member that stayed on during our first shutdown and was the main reason we were able to keep our doors open for take-out during that time. Even though I had no clue what I was doing, Tina always came to work with a ā€œcan do attitudeā€ and motivated me to keep going.

This past February, Tina suffered from a very serious vertigo attack at work and had to spend a few days in the hospital. She reflects back on this time and was absolutely amazed at how many people reached out to wish her well.

Tina’s soups, baking and infectious smile will be missed by manyā™„ļø
