It feels surreal and still hasn’t hit yet, but we had our last day on Sunday. To everyone who has supported us, from the Cardinal Press family to yours, we are eternally thankful. The community we built and the friendships made were everything. It was our pleasure to be your escape.

To our staff, past and present, you guys have been incredible. Thank you for all of your hard work, and for being a part of the family. To the final three staff from Sunday, you made our last day perfect. Eternally grateful.

We will miss your faces on the daily. But, hey, if you want to say hi be sure to stop in and see what we’re doing with .comics

I guess if we have anything left to say it’s be kind to each other, and keep supporting the little guys. You may not think walking through those doors matters to anyone, but believe us it does. No one is supporting small businesses out there other than everyday people. And this is also where the kindness comes in. Everyone is fighting a silent battle and no one is perfect. People doing this on the daily are working hours you wouldn’t believe and putting so much on the line. But they’re fighting to do what they love. Community is about holding each other up, not tearing them down.

Passion is a beautiful thing. Pursue yours.

Well, I guess that’s about all we have left in the tank.

The Cardinal Press brand is for sale!

We would love to see someone carry on the legacy of the shop and have a fresh start like we did when we got into the business. The brand comes with branding guides, google listings, web domain, social media, signage, espresso machine, training and how-to guide of all the do’s and don’t you learn from running a shop over the years. We will also come in before you open and a month after to see how you are doing and field any questions or help guide you through any problems you are finding. We aren’t just trying to sell our brand to wash our hands of it, we really want to help whomever is interested in succeeding with a proper start.

Wow, it’s really been 7 years. Crazy. Thank you to all of our customers who have been there for us over the years. 7 years is a long time, and we’ve been reflecting lately on our highs and our lows, and what that means for the shop. While we have loved serving our community over this time, we have made the difficult decision to move on from Cardinal Press. To own a small business passion is everything, and as we have stepped away to start new projects we have found that our passions lie elsewhere. Cardinal Press will officially be closing its doors on Sunday January 21st. If the shop has meant anything to you over the years, please stop by and enjoy these last few weeks with us. Gift cards will be redeemable until January 21st. Thank you again for your patronage, but even more so for the wonderful relationships and friendships we have built over the years.

So, what will happen with the Cardinal Press location? Well, when we talk about passion we have found it in our other business venture: Wayside Comics & Cocktails. We will be moving our little comic shop from the back into the CP space and bring back Wayside Tavern in its place. On a personal level (Omar Speaking), this world has saved me and brought me back to life. Comics have been a life long passion and making cocktails has brought about a beautiful new creativity in me. So I am excited to take what I have been able to do on a smaller scale, which we have surprisingly outgrown, and expand. And while we are no longer a coffee shop we will still have our machine and offer a small espresso menu at Wayside. So, if you haven’t stopped into Wayside Comics & Cocktails yet please do and we hope to see your friendly faces when we reopen Wayside in the new space.

Happy holidays! Here are our holiday hours, all other days not listed are our regular hours. We also have put all coffee gear and accessories on sale at 20% off along with our Cardinal Press branded shirts and hoodies at 25% off, we have the Little Craft wooden signs and ornaments and new this year are some beautiful holiday wreaths and planters by a local artist. So if you are looking for any last minute gifts, come check us out!

Another year on Top 3 Cafes in Newmarket! Really proud to have been on this list consistently over the years. Just a mom and pop operation, with great staff, who love being able to give you a great space and good espresso. As much as Ashley and I have taken a bit of a step back to raise our son and start another business, .comics (just behind the cafe), please know we appreciate everyone that comes through our doors. Our little shop that could keeps moving forward.
