Today, we’re grateful to share something very special.

To honour Residential School Survivors, the children who never returned home, their families and their descendants, we are launching a new sticker featuring artwork created by one of our team members, Ali.

Ali and her family are from Haida Gwaii and her design is a tribute to the Haida people, folklore and nature. Her artwork features two ravens and an eagle. Ravens hold a very deep significance in Haida culture. In one Haida story, a raven cracks open a clam shell, but instead of finding a pearl inside, the raven finds a person. This is said to be how the first people of Haida Gwaii came to be in the world.

Within the heart of the raven on the right, Ali incorporated elements of the British flag to show that even as time passes and new generations are born, the impacts of colonization continue to be carried in the hearts of Indigenous people.

This history is also part of Ali’s own family story. Her Chini (great-grandfather) Matthew Williams, was a Residential School Survivor. He is the small boy holding the drum in the front row of the photo included in this post.

A big Háw’aa (thank you) to Ali for sharing her artwork, her family’s story and her culture with us. 🧡🧡🧡

The stickers come in 3 inch or 4 inch sizes and they’re $5 each + tax. They’re made from durable, car-grade vinyl, so they can be put on vehicles, water bottles, etc. We are open on Wednesday, September 30th if you’d like to pick one up today, or another day coming up.

100% of these sticker sales will be donated to the Haida Gwaii Museum’s Language Revitalization Project, which supports the preservation and continued teaching of the endangered Haida language by pairing fluent speakers with Indigenous language learners.

🍩☕️ Who has tried our Donuts & Coffee ice cream!? This one has Harbour City Donuts blended into the ice cream base, and it’s drizzled with coffee sauce made with Regard Coffee…. Because apparently coffee and donuts CAN get even better! 😋😎
