We are incredibly proud to have beautiful local photography from our friends Jesse & Susan at Follow Me North displayed throughout Cast Iron. Their work is the only local artwork we currently carry, and weโre very proud to showcase and sell it here in the restaurant.
Now, we just discovered that someone removed one of their photographs from the frame in our menโs washroom. And yes, they actually put the empty frame back on the wall!
Weโre honestly a little shocked and disappointed.
These photographs arenโt just decorations. Theyโre pieces of local artwork created by two people in our community, and theyโre available for purchase right here through the restaurant. The missing photograph is a close-up image of a fox called โStay Clever.โ
And, to be fair, whoever took it was pretty clever about it. They carefully removed the print, put the frame back together, and rehung it as if nothing had happened. Weโre just not sure that was the kind of clever the title was meant to inspire.
We work hard to make Cast Iron a welcoming place and weโre proud to support local businesses whenever we can. So this was disappointing to discover, especially knowing the time, effort and heart that goes into creating and sharing this work.
Weโre not going to ask for the photograph back. But wherever it ends up hanging, we hope that every once in a while, when you look at that fox staring back at you, you remember the local artists who created it, the small business that proudly displayed it, and how it ended up on your wall.
Some artwork comes with a story. We just wish this one had a better one.
