We’re kicking off our Community BBQ business spotlight series with Off the Mat Virtual Golf and Panchita’s Taqueria, two Morinville businesses helping make free BBQ meals possible on October 25!

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be introducing more of the businesses supporting the event and hearing why they chose to get involved.

Community BBQ — October 25 at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre from 2 - 6 pm.

With support from local businesses, Smoky Oak BBQ will be serving a free pulled pork BBQ meal with a side and drink while supplies last.

So come on out, grab some free BBQ, meet some of the businesses involved, check out some local vendors and spend the afternoon with the community.

I’ve been making my way around town the last few weeks connecting with local businesses about a community BBQ I’d like to put together this fall.

I know I haven’t managed to reach everyone — so this is a call-out to anyone I may have missed!

If you own, manage, or work with a business in Morinville and I haven’t stopped by to speak with you yet, send me a message.

It’s a simple way for local businesses to help bring the community together, and I’d like to give as many businesses in town as possible the opportunity to be involved.

Out and about in St Albert? Enjoy watching some football? Hungry?

Well you’re in luck! SAMFA day is today and three of the club teams are playing this morning through mid afternoon with concessions and smoked pulled pork sandwiches!!

SAMFA DAY IS SEPTEMBER 19TH!

SAMFA Day is coming up at Larry Olexiuk Field!

Our U13 Fury, U13 49ers, and U16 49ers will all be playing at home!

Come enjoy a great day of football, grab some food from the concession, check out the SAMFA merchandise table, and cheer on our teams!

Smoky Oak BBQ will also be joining us with pulled pork sandwiches! Plus, we’ll have pop, Gatorade, chips and candy bags available.Come out, support our players, grab some great food, and spend the day with the SAMFA community!

There are a lot of great businesses in Morinville and area that deserve some recognition. So if there’s a local business you regularly support, one that always gives you great service, take a couple minutes and nominate them for a Morinville & District Chamber Business Award.

Maybe it’s the place you go to work on your golf swing without worrying about what the weather is doing, or where you stop afterward for a locally brewed b**r that you can’t find anywhere else, or maybe it’s your go-to spot for some ridiculously good tacos.

Maybe it’s where you go to get yourself or the kids geared up for the season.

Maybe it’s the people who help you see a little better, or the person you call and who will come to you when your back and shoulders have decided they’ve had enough of you!

These are just a handful of examples. There are a lot of locally owned businesses around here that we probably interact with more than we even realize.

If someone or some place comes to mind (even multiple places), throw their name in for a nomination!

A little something different coming off the smoker today… smoked leg of lamb, pulled and piled onto warm garlic naan with cucumber, pickled red onions and tzatziki.

Served with baked lemon potatoes — tender inside, browned around the edges, and plenty of lemon coming through.

Not exactly traditional BBQ, but smoke works with a whole lot more than brisket and pork!
