I spent my childhood in the Democratic Republic of Congo. At ten years old, we had to flee the country and I lived in Brazzaville for several years before joining my parents in a refugee camp in Benin 🌍 There, I met people from all around Africa, and learned a bit about their cuisines as well.
We grew cassava in my mother’s vegetable garden, and I learned to make (fermented cassava) and to export to Europe. I also learned to cook to help feed all my brothers - yes I can even make fufu! 😂
Now in Montreal, farm to table still holds a special place in my heart, despite some ingredients being hard to find fresh in Canada. At Mokili, we’re lucky to have the chance to work with local farmers who grow African vegetables and greens, to bring the real taste of Africa to our dishes. 🌿
