āLovettā or hate it, itās a Sweeney Todd cake, Broadway edition of course! This cake was just for fun, but I actually did do several things Iāve never done before like the modelling chocolate razor and covering the cake fully in fondant. You can see thereās a tear on the Sweeney side, but because it was just for fun, I just pinched it together and moved on with my life. The cake inside is dyed pinkish-red to give the perfect meat colour and filled with cherry pie filling which while itās funny given Mrs Lovettās story, it also looks beautifully gorey. The pie is just a ball of fondant, so it truly is the worst pie in London.
I wanted this cake to be really unique and to find a way to incorporate the characters into the cake since the actorās portrayal of them is really what grabbed my attention and I realized both of the characters wear pretty distinctive outfits. Iām pretty proud of the accuracy I got from the the droopy apron bow, the textured skirt, and colouring (although I did eliminate her coin purse to make it less busy).
Now as weird as this cake may be, Iāve been caking almost a year now and it took until now to realize Iād never made a cake purely out of fun for myself. Pretty silly for someone whose personality is basically that she likes to bake. Iād made ones that werenāt orders for customers, but they always had the intent of being content, or putting my name out there, or to try out a new skill. I love making customerās orders, but Iāve never just done one for me. So my message is in this really crappy world, I want everyone to take the things they like doing, whether itās painting, or crochet, or doing puzzles, and to really cherish them deeply, because sometimes we start just going through the motions, and the thing that used to make us happy, just becomes a thing to us and we forget why we started doing them in the first place. Enjoy it. Wait. And please. Take a moment, and sing blindly about revenge and your shady cooking ingredients.
