A little behind the scenes at Chateau Mille Fleurs… 🌸

When we say that our couples have access to our décor collection, it’s easy to see the finished pieces and not necessarily think about what went into creating them.

So I thought I’d show you. ❤️

Today’s project is a new set of floral pieces for one of our ceremony backdrops. The flowers and greenery you see scattered across my floor represent about $280 in materials, about three hours of running around sourcing everything, and roughly two hours of cutting, arranging, wiring, tweaking and probably changing my mind a dozen times to create just the first piece.

One down. One more to go. 😂

And this is just one little part of the décor collection our couples get to use while they’re here.

Over the years, we’ve collected, built, painted, repaired, repurposed and created so many of the things you see around Chateau Mille Fleurs. Some were expensive. Some took hours and hours of our time. Quite a few involved Jeff building something after I started a sentence with “Soooo… I have an idea.” 😂

We include so much of it because we genuinely want our couples to be able to create a beautiful wedding without having to buy every single thing themselves.

It’s also why we ask everyone who spends time here — couples, wedding parties, families and guests — to treat the venue and everything in it with a little kindness and care. ❤️

These aren’t just “venue things.”

They’re things we’ve chosen, made and cared for so that couple after couple can enjoy them too.

Once Upon a Day 🌿

Somewhere along the way, weddings became complicated.

A hundred decisions. A dozen different vendors. A growing list of things you’re supposed to have, supposed to do, and supposed to spend money on.

And we keep coming back to the same thought:

It really doesn’t have to be that way.

When we created Once Upon a Day, we wanted to take some of that weight off.

A beautiful place to get married.
Tables and chairs already here.
Décor you can make your own.
A forest ceremony space waiting for you.
A private place to get ready.
A bartender for your BYOB bar.
A wedding cake sized for your celebration.
And even a little time with two ridiculously fluffy sheep. 🐑🤍

For our smaller weddings, we take care of the setup and tear-down too — because when the package is already designed to make things easier, asking you to do the heavy lifting never made much sense.

And now, Once Upon a Day is growing.

For celebrations over 65 guests, we’re opening the collection all the way up to our venue capacity, with three-day access and a choice.

Maybe you’re the couple with a crew of friends and family who genuinely want to come the day before, decorate the tables, hang the personal touches and make the place yours.

Do that.

Save the money. Bring the people you love. Put on some music and make setup part of the memory.

Or maybe your dream wedding includes waking up that morning knowing it’s already done.

We can do that too.

Because we didn’t build Chateau Mille Fleurs to tell people there is one right way to have a wedding.

We built it so you could have yours.

Big or small. Hands-on or hands-off. A little fancy, a little unconventional, completely personal — whatever that looks like for you.

That’s what Once Upon a Day is becoming.

Not just another wedding package.

A beautiful place, a whole lot already taken care of, and enough freedom left for it to still feel like you. 🌸

There’s a moment at almost every wedding when I stop working and just look.

Yesterday, this was it.

The forest was full of people who had come together for two people they love. The sun was filtering through the trees, everyone was gathered close, and for a few minutes this little piece of our property didn’t feel like ours at all.

It was theirs.

And maybe that’s the part of owning a wedding venue I never really knew how to explain until now.

We build things. We mow the grass. We plant the gardens. We drag tables around, hang things, fix things, clean things and spend an unreasonable amount of time thinking about bathrooms, parking and whether it might rain. 😂

But none of that is actually the important part.

The important part is what happens after we hand it over.

A couple brings their people here.
They add their flowers, their music, their traditions, their weird little ideas, their personalities and all the people who make their life theirs.

And suddenly the place we built becomes something completely different.

Their wedding venue.
Their memory.
Their day.

Yesterday, standing back and watching this ceremony happening in our forest, I had one of those holy crap… we actually built a place where people do this moments.

And I don’t think that will ever get old.

We didn’t build Chateau Mille Fleurs to tell people what their wedding should look like.

We built it so they could show us what theirs looks like. 🤍

One of my favourite parts of wedding mornings is watching the venue slowly stop looking like ours.

Because that’s actually the point.

We can give you the sailcloth tent, the forest, the tables, the gardens, the décor and all the little pieces we’ve collected over the years — but then you arrive.

Your flowers. Your colours. Your weird little inside jokes. The things you made at your kitchen table. The thing your mom insisted on bringing. The completely unnecessary detail that nobody else will understand but makes you ridiculously happy.

And suddenly it doesn’t look like a Chateau Mille Fleurs wedding.

It looks like your wedding at Chateau Mille Fleurs.

That’s what we built this place for. ❤️

It’s wedding day! And it’s another glorious weather day for our couple and their friends and family! Here’s some sneak peaks!
The tent is set for 120! If our standard 8 seat head table were in place it would be 118! ( for those curious as to how many we can seat! This weekends couple and friends did a fabulous job with their set up!… and something tells me the colour choices match something very specific that I’ll share later!
