What is “ Mastic Gum”??

Let’s talk about one of my Arabic Ice-cream’s ingredients “Mastic Gum”. I believe it is not familiar for most of you and is rarely seen in the grocery stores.

Mastic gum (Pistacia lentiscus) is a unique resin that comes from a tree grown in the Mediterranean region. It is a natural, plant-derived ingredient with unique aroma.

Mastic Gum is also healthy as people have used it for its medicinal properties for centuries. Some studies suggest that it has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties.

I use this unique, natural, healthy ingredient for making my handmade Mediterranean ice-cream as it gives the ice-cream its texture and flavour.
