The Building:
The building was purchased by Rob Willson in the Spring of 1998 from Joey Beaton. It was then sold to the Rankins in 2004 and was reopened at the end of May 2005. The Name
Johnny Gillis of North East Mabou, came up with the name 'Red Shoe' as a tribute to Cape Breton fiddler Dan R. After doing some research, former owner Rob Willson realized just how much Dan R. had contributed to th

e music and culture and decided it would be an appropriate name for the pub. Live Music Hours:

Howie MacDonald & Beverly MacLean take over Sunday Matinée at the Red Shoe.

Howie is one of Cape Breton’s best known fiddlers and entertainers, with decades of music behind him including years touring and recording with The Rankin Family. Beverly, from Southside Boularderie, is a respected Cape Breton fiddler and piano accompanist who has performed at ceilidhs, dances and stages throughout the island and beyond.

Two seasoned Cape Breton musicians and a Sunday afternoon of tunes in the heart of Mabou.

SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE SHOE 🎻

Stephanie MacDonald & Susan MacLean are back at the Red Shoe this Saturday for an evening deeply rooted in Cape Breton tradition.

Raised in Whycocomagh, Stephanie has been playing fiddle and step dancing since the age of five and is a familiar face at square dances, ceilidhs and concerts throughout Cape Breton. Susan, originally from Washabuck, is an accomplished Cape Breton pianist, fiddler, composer and educator who has spent decades performing and sharing the tradition.

Two accomplished Cape Breton musicians and a Saturday night of tunes in the heart of Mabou.
