🍬CANDY AISLE☕️

Whether you grew up in Ladner or not, most of us will remember riding our bikes down to the corner store with a pocket full of change to spend on candy! You had choices here, Bernie’s Confectionary in the 60’s and 70’s, or if you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s there was CKY, Ming’s, and right here in this spot, Johnny’s. There was no shortage of choice for your sweet tooth craving. Flavours of the rainbow bursting in the first few chews or the satisfaction of that chocolate wonder from a candy bar.

We had a few coffees leftover that we couldn’t roast a full batch of. What if we blended them together? When we first cupped this coffee, it instantly took us back to that Candy Aisle. If you enjoy a light roasted coffee that highlights the sweetness of coffee, this is for you! Predominantly blended with a Colombian and Ethiopian coffees, this packs a punch, kind of like if Pop Rocks was Fun Dip with a hint of Big Turk.

This is a limited run coffee, at least until we have random left over coffees again. Grab a bag before they’re gone!

If you really are craving candy though, go visit our friend Dale Sugar Vault Shop for actual candy!

Coffee Components, all washed:
25% - Colombia Tolima Women’s Coffee
50% - Ethiopia Gigesa
Remaining blend comprised of a Brazil Paineira and Peru Fundo Sudetia Del Sur

June is always a busy month. Graduations, official start of summer, end of school year, start of summer markets…and fanatic soccer fans this year. But here at Stir, we seem to always be sharing birthdays this month. Happy birthday to our June babies of Stir.

Swipe left for a throwback to 1982 for one of Rob’s birthdays at the back of his parents shop. See the similarities?

Johnny’s Corner, the building where our coffee shop resides, wouldn’t be known for what it is without this man here. From peddling vegetables around Ladner to operating a corner store known for its flowers. Johnny’s was not just a place to get groceries, filling up on slushies and candy during high school lunch, or burning through all your quarters in the arcade at the back of the shop. This was a place of belonging and community, a place we called home, and remains a vibrant gathering place.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads, grandfathers, uncles and role models in our community. Thank you for the foundation you build and the support you provide. Cheers!

📷 This photo was taken about 1966 and is on the corner of Elliott St and Ladner Trunk when Ladner Trunk went through where Westham Square is now (the blue Ladner sign). Pictured here is Johnny, our dad, with our late sister Donna. ❤️❤️

Evening reflections.

Caught this rainbow on our grinder that we use for our espresso. It is quite poetic in a way that this rainbow is like coffee; coffee being the seed of a bright, juicy cherry and when roasted and prepared with care and intention you are drinking a vibrant spectrum of flavours.

☕️ May Long Weekend ☕️

We be here, coffee is on and so are the vibes.

Current Rotation

Espresso - Johnny’s Espresso, our everyday ‘spro. Well balanced and approachable to all milk based drinks.

Drip - Colombia Tolima Women’s Coffee, we roasted this to a medium and it’s delicious. Notes of toffee, stone fruit, and floral aromatics.

Ice Coffee - Guatemala Santa Clara, also roasted to a medium offering a rounder body for this brew method. Solid initial sipping notes of toffee and cocoa.

Tis the season.

We know you love our cold brew and it is coming in the near future.

But! We do have iced coffee available that will enlighten your taste palate and explore other coffees we have available. We currently have an Ethiopian, that we roasted light, that highlights the floral and citrus notes of the region of Yirgacheffe.

Our iced coffee will change time to time, much like our drip coffee, giving you an opportunity to enjoy the unique flavour profiles of coffees from different regions.

Our mom was the welcoming face at Johnny’s whenever dad was out picking up stock, and the one behind the most beautiful flower arrangements in the shop. While helping run the store seven days a week and raising three kids, she somehow did it all — definitely our super mom.

Give your mom a call today, or take her out for a coffee or tea and remind her how much she means to you and how much of an impact she’s had on your life.
You may know her as Sue, Susie, Mrs. Lowe, or just Johnny’s wife. These days, you’ll still spot her around Ladner checking in on her sons and making sure everything’s running smoothly.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!
