There are strange things done when the long weekend's begun by the people who chase the sun,
And the Breslau trails have their secret tales of a cafΓ© that's second to none.
The patio lights have seen strange sights, but the strangest they ever did see,
Was a Canadian who passed The Nest Cafe and kept driving β on a holiday. π
We've known them all β the toque and the drawl, the apologizer, the hockey dad proud,
The cottage-goer with the boat in tow, the Nanaimo-bar-loving crowd.
The ones who say "eh" in a genuine way, who hold every door with a smile,
Who'll drive through a blizzard for a neighbour in need and consider it worthwhile.
This nation was built on the cold and the grit, on the shield and the muskeg and snow,
On people who showed up when showing up mattered and refused to let kindness go.
That part, at least, we know something about.
Come find us this morning. The coffee is hot, the baking is made from scratch, the patio is open, the dog is invited, and for one day in this magnificent frozen-most-of-the-year country of ours β let's sit together and soak up the heat π¨π¦βπ
