We are extremely picky, here at Taste of Philly Cheesesteak, about the quality of ingredients we use in our sandwiches. It should come as no surprise to many that, unfortunately, obesity rates, diabetes, and other marks of improper diets are at an all time high in North America. Heavily processed foods are a key component contributing to this. We simply refuse, for both health and ethical reasons, to include these ingredients in our foods.

We have taken a lot of time to determine the best combination of ingredients for our foods. With all this research, we use only the best quality, AAA USDA approved Angus Beef available. AAA is the mark used to determine "superior quality" meats. Aged for the ideal amount of time to release maximum flavour, it is extremely tender and when cooked to the correct temperature, unveils a taste spectrum unlike any other meat.

We prefer to cook the meat "naked"--that is with no sauces or spices added to it--to allow the juices from the meat to cook into the vegetables on the grill. The result speaks for itself. No unnecessary seasonings with unhealthy amounts of sodium; no preservatives or other additives; no processed vegetables covered in chemicals. This unleashes the ultimate flavour. It's all natural, excellent quality, and ready to nourish and satisfy your hunger pangs. Complete the sandwich with a few select fresh veggies, and sauces that we make in house, and enjoy quality food.

As we enter the middle of November, signs of what defines life for the first half of the winter season are already upon us. Christmas lights are starting to go up in the city hub, there have been reports about big box stores playing Holiday theme music immediately following Halloween, and, possibly to the dismay of some, stores are beginning to stockpile winter-ready items, such as snow shovels, and copius amounts of winter apparel. Though there are many positives to what can happen in the winter time, this is often a time of year that people begin developing feelings of "the winter blues".

Much of this can be attributed to the hustle and bustle of people preparing for the holiday season. And as we come closer to the Christmas season, and everyone, suddenly, seems to become more stressed, we are here at Taste of Philly to help add a sense of calm and enjoyment to this otherwise bustling time of the year. We truly believe that there is nothing more satisfying on a cold, busy, and hectic winter day than a delicious warm meal. Without a good meal, with top quality ingredients, days can just be that much more stressful. And we are ready to serve up high quality meals for everyone this winter season.

Come get one of our mouthwatering signature AAA USDA approved Angus steak sandwiches, cooked with onions, mushrooms, and peppers on the grill, topped with perfectly melted cuts of havarti cheese. Complete the sandwich with your choice of our selection of fresh vegetables and sauces. To complete your meal, add some of our high quality fresh-cut french fries or onion rings, and prepare to embark on a taste adventure that will let you forget about the winter blues.

In the past few months, the owners of a couple long standing businesses in the downtown core have decided to retire after many years of serving the community. As evidenced by articles in The Record newspaper, it is clear that these places have had significant impacts on the local populace, and that their place in Kitchener had been sealed with nothing but good memories. These individuals have served downtown shoppers for many years, building positive relationships whilst holding on to an individualistic and entirely unique identity.

There are many qualities that go into building a community, but there is one universal truth that can not be denied: a strong, positive community is built around people serving the needs of others. In providing services or goods that fulfilled the interests or requirements of people, they were able to carve a niche that until then, had not been met to an adequate capacity.

These places will be fondly remembered. And most importantly, though they may not be completely replaced, there are new shops opening up every month that are excited to find their own niche, and carve their own unique status amongst Kitchener's downtown core. We at Taste of Philly look forward to what each of these places have to offer.

In the area that surrounds us at Taste of Philly, there is a unique view of the central core of Kitchener. Development has been steady on renovating old buildings, new lofts are being constructed at many of the old factory buildings that span the downtown core, and there are plans to build more condos in the area. Being able to witness the transformation of Kitchener's downtown has been an exciting and inspiring experience, and we have been contemplating what this means for local businesses throughout the downtown core. We believe strongly that supporting local businesses is the corner stone of the economics of a city, and there is evidence of that all around this area. Throughout Kitchener's downtown, there have been many new cafes, shops, and restaurants opening up as the downtown has been revitalized. Each place is entirely unique, and serves a special purpose in the downtown core.

Come down to the area, explore what downtown is all about, and take a stop by our shop to say hello.

Oktoberfest is here! Each year, Oktoberfest simultaneously brings both an atmosphere of cheer into the Kitchener downtown core, as well as recognition of the regions German heritage. For those who are unaware, Waterloo Region's Oktoberfest is the largest event of its type outside of Germany, and is a substantial tourist attraction for the region--especially downtown Kitchener itself, where most of the action takes place.

Make the effort to come explore the downtown core over the coming week--especially if you have never been, and see what the buzz is all about. There's a parade happening on Thanksgiving Monday. The city core has been transformed into a carnival along King Street. And of course, there will be many other festivities all throughout Kitchener's central hub over the coming week. Come downtown, support local businesses and vendors, and take in the sights all around.

Happy Thanksgiving, and have a safe and fun Oktoberfest!

Try our chicken! For the next week when you buy two chicken sandwiches or wraps and two drinks, get a free order of fries.

Chicken is one of the most loved meats in the world. Almost every restaurant that you will walk into will have at least one chicken option.

When something is so widely consumed it creates the problem of production and purity. Lots of what is sold as chicken out there has been processed, pumped full of additives, cut with generic meat protein, and delivered to the restaurant in an entirely new form. What part of the animal do chicken nuggets come from?

In step with our concern about what we eat, and what our customers eat, we only buy and sell 100% chicken breast. When you get our chicken sandwich or wrap, you are getting a medley of cooked mushrooms, mixed peppers, onions, chicken breast, and cheese melted on top.

Maybe you would like some sauce on your chicken: ask us, and we will cook your chicken breast with hot sauce (which we recommend pairing with the dill-garlic sauce) or bbq sauce (which we recommend pairing with chipotle mayo) or both!

Our loyal customers that are set on their steak, we assure you that if you try our chicken sandwich you won't find it disappointing.

The decor of our restaurant is minimalist. Instead of having cluttered or elaborate presentation we have opted for an atmosphere of simplicity and cleanliness that we think best represents what we do.

Given that restaurants are places where people spend time sitting, a lot of thought needs to go into the interior. How do you present what you do? Do you want it to say something about your food, your ethos, your staff's personality or the ownership? How do you want customers to feel while they are there?

There is a lot to think about, and people often get hung up on it, or dwell perhaps too much. It's common to walk into a restaurant, and realize upon the receiving the bill that you are paying for the decor more so than the food.

What did we want our interior to say about our food? Nothing. We wanted the food to speak for itself. Instead of creating an image of what you should think about us, we created a simple space with clean lines, natural lighting, and crisp symmetry. We aim to keep it very clean, and we want the music to be enjoyable. We were inspired by those classic single counter restaurants that have become institutions in cities across North America and Europe, known entirely by the quality of what they serve, and not the fake-out of image.

Every day, every one of us are barraged by an assortment of colourful images, slogans that appeal to our senses and trespass on our reason, with enough rhymes and jingles to drown out our own inner-voice. I wonder how much food itself dictates where people choose to eat? We don't want to be just another drunk screaming at the festival.

We don't want to sell you your youth or the feeling of being cool or trendy; we would rather not be in the marketplace of ideas. It is bad when your intentions become divided. We would rather you come into our nice, clean restaurant and enjoy a well-prepared sandwich - the focus of what we do. That's all.
