The new bathroom is almost complete with just some finishing touches left! Yes, this has been a longer process than anticipated, but the results allow us to welcome more people into our space for events.

During this time we have had the opportunity to reflect on not only how the cafe space serves this community, but the Broom Factory building as a whole. Thanks to partnership with its tenants, the and , we’ve welcomed many amazing artists and community groups into this space, hosting events ranging from live music to film to comedy and lots more. This beautifully restored historic building operates as working offices for its tenants during the day, and a multi use venue during evenings and weekends.

We are a small team working hard to make this space vibrant, inclusive and dynamic. With this building doing so much, we have decided to continue the pause on daytime cafe operations for now, allowing us to focus our energy on expanding our venue offerings (stay tuned for more on that). And while we miss our daytime café community, the cafe/bar will continue to be open during all events, both public and private, serving you a wide range of beverages and snacks.

This does not mean our daytime operations are closed for good, but rather on pause as we continue to refine our operations and services. We appreciate the patience of the Broom Factory community, and are grateful for each and every one of you who have visited us, whether during the day at the cafe, or an evening for a show. It’s been a pleasure to welcome you into this space and we look forward to doing so again. We highly recommend checking our broomfactory.ca to see some of the amazing events we have coming up!

Knifey & Spooney have been supplying us with their very popular cinnamon buns (and variations, such as strawberry basil or maple coconut), cookies, cakes, and the plant based sausage for our Vegan Breakfast Sandwich. They are local plant based caterers that you can regularly find Sundays

They take custom orders and cater weddings! We would HIGHLY recommend them for your next big event! Follow them to see what else they are up to 😊

Wheat Kings Bakery supplies are delicious bread we use for all our sandwiches, scones and their famous cruffins! We are often asked what a cruffin is. A cross between a donut, croissant, muffin! VERY POPULAR and available here every Friday!

You can also get all their goods at their own storefront located behind the Portsmouth Tavern. Close to us you can find their bread

As we prepare to close for renovations we want to ensure you know how to get your hands on the delicious baked goods that we have offered here. First up ✨

They make incredible plant based & some gluten free friendly coffee cakes, cookies, muffins, biscuits, espresso bean cookies, cupcakes, pizza scones and SO MUCH MORE! You can often find their goods offered as well as at many local markets around town. Looking for a custom order? They do that too!

Huge thank you to Chelsea from The Coffee Plant for being such a reliable supplier, and also a team member in our early days. It has truly been a pleasure to work with them. We HIGHLY recommend you consider them for your next big event. They won’t disappoint! 😊

Attention TULA and Broom patrons: we have some good news & bad news.

The good: thanks to the Community Foundation for Kingston and Area, the Broom Factory received funding to build a new washroom, which comes in handy for practical reasons, but also enables us to increase our capacity for events! Starting in the fall, we can welcome additional patrons to events, which we hope leads to bigger name artists performing here, and greater flexibility in terms of events we can host. In January, we improved our stage and sound system, in May we added new artwork to the space - the new washroom will be our latest improvement, furthering our mission to develop the Broom as an inclusive community hub supporting film, music, design, and community.

The bad: due to the construction and disruption, as of August 4th, TULA will be closing its daytime café service during the renovations. There is no set date to reopen, however, the cafe will still open and operate during events. To the daytime patrons: we’re incredibly grateful for all your support since opening our doors in March of 2023. As we work to improve the space and further our vision, service updates will be provided with time. We appreciate your patience and understanding and encourage you to follow on socials or check out the website broomfactory.ca for event updates - we hope to see some of our daytime patrons attending events and checking in on the progress during the renovations.

Wait, there’s more GOOD NEWS! But, we can’t tell you yet. In the near future, we’ll be able to announce some additional improvements (even though the new bathroom is super exciting, right??). While sad to be closing the daytime cafe at this moment, it affords us the opportunity to get ready for the busy fall/winter event season.
