🌲 Meet Fir 🌲

Fir has been with us at Catelowna for two whole years, and watching her slowly come out of her shell has been incredibly special. 💚 She’s a lovely, gentle girl who is finally ready to find her forever home.

And one very important thing you should know about Fir: she LOVES butt scratches. Give her a good scratch in just the right spot and you’ll quickly become her favourite person !!

Fir absolutely thrives in the company of other cats, so she’ll need to go to a home with a feline friend, or be adopted alongside another cat. Shes still learning to trust humans, so a child free home would be ideal for her.

When she’s feeling cozy, you’ll usually find Fir perched on the highest part of the cat tree, soaking up the sunshine, or quietly watching the rain trickle down the window. ☀️🌧️ But don’t let her calm nature fool you, she still has plenty of playful energy! She loves to run and play on the balconies at Catelowna and can be wonderfully silly when the mood strikes.

Fir enjoys pets and affection, but she needs someone who understands that trust takes time. She’s still blossoming, and we know there is so much more of her personality waiting to come out. 🌱

After two years of watching Fir grow, we’re ready to help her take that next step: a home of her very own, with someone patient enough to let her bloom at her own pace. 💚

Could you be Fir’s person? 🐾

Meet Peanut & Uncle Toby, two handsome boys who are ready to find their forever home!

These two are absolute sweethearts. They wouldn’t hurt a fly, they’re incredibly gentle, and they LOVE to cuddle. Uncle Toby would happily spend the entire day curled up in your lap if you let him. He’s basically a professional snuggler.

And then there’s Peanut. Peanut will serenade you with the cutest little meow and happily soak up all the attention… but he does have one tiny problem: he is VERY nosey. If you leave a purse unattended, Peanut will be in it. Keys? He needs to inspect them. Anything interesting? He has questions. He’s basically a tiny private investigator with absolutely no respect for personal belongings.

Together, these two are the perfect combination of sweet, cuddly, and just a little bit silly. If you’re looking for gentle boys who will fill your home with love (and occasionally investigate your purse), Peanut and Uncle Toby might be your guys!

Come meet them at Catelowna and see if these handsome boys steal your heart… and hopefully not your keys.

When it comes to kibble, every cat is a little different! Some cats can free-feed throughout the day, naturally regulating their intake and maintaining a healthy weight. Others need their meals carefully portioned because they have absolutely no concept of “I’ve had enough.”

Alani is very much in the second category.

This silly guy would happily eat an entire bag of kibble in one sitting if we let him. He sees an unlimited supply of food and thinks, “Challenge accepted.” So for cats like Alani, rationing their food and sticking to measured meals is an important part of keeping them at a healthy weight.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to feeding cats. Some are perfectly happy to nibble all day, while others need us humans to provide a little… portion control.

Alani may not appreciate the math, but his waistline certainly does.

🎉 THE LONG-AWAITED TATTOO FLASH SALE FUNDRAISER UPDATE! 🎉

So... why has it taken us so long to announce the final total?

Because it was SO popular that the artists just kept going! What was supposed to be a flash sale turned into a full-on tattoo marathon!

Thanks to the incredible generosity, talent and dedication of Jill and Vaeda at In Bloom, an absolutely WHOPPING $1,010 was raised for the Catelowna kitties! 🐱❤️

We honestly cannot thank you enough for donating your precious time, energy and incredible skills to support our rescue cats. You will never truly know how much this donation means to us and how much it will help the kitties in our care.

And of course, a huge thank you to everyone who came out, got some amazing ink and supported the fundraiser. 🥰

$1,010 for the kitties because two amazing artists kept tattooing and a whole bunch of wonderful people showed up for cats. We are feeling incredibly grateful. ❤️🐾

Thank you, Jill. Thank you, Vaeda. Thank you, In Bloom. You are officially part of the Catelowna family! 🐱💕

Nail trims are serious business, so we’ve perfected the art of bribery.

When it comes to keeping our cats comfortable and cooperative for things like nail trims, we’ve found that Churu treats are one of our best tools. A little lickable treat gives them something positive to focus on while we get those tiny claws trimmed.

Is it bribery? Technically, yes. But we prefer to call it positive reinforcement. And if the cats walk away thinking they just got rewarded for being very brave, we’re all happy.

🐾 A HUGE thank you to Buckerfields in West Kelowna! 💕🐾

We were absolutely spoiled yesterday with a massive donation of cat food from the wonderful folks at Buckerfields in West Kelowna — and not just any food… Premium Fussie Cat limited-ingredient DUCK! 🦆😻

We’ve been wanting to try our kitties on something a little different from their usual fish, so this donation gives us the perfect opportunity to see which of our feline friends might prefer a different protein. And judging by the enthusiasm yesterday… we think we may have some very happy taste-testers! 😂

A HUGE thank you to everyone who donated through Buckerfields West Kelowna. Your generosity directly helps keep our kitties happy, healthy, and very well-fed.

We love you. The cats love you. And apparently, the duck is already a BIG hit. 🥰🐱🦆

Thank you, thank you, thank you! ❤️

🐾 Calling all handy Catelowna Fam! 🔧

Does anyone have a bit of time today and the skills to help us fix the mechanism on our fire door? I tried screwing it back together myself, but it seems to be stuck and I’m officially admitting defeat. 😂

If you know your way around these things, we’d be SO grateful for some help! And if you don’t have the time to pop by, any advice is very much welcome too!

☕️ Coffee + 🐱 kitty cuddles await the helpful human who can save the day!

Thank you in advance, Catelowna Fam! ❤️

Rehabilitating a feral or extremely shy cat is a very, very long process, and there’s no magic switch that suddenly makes them comfortable with people.

The cafe is actually a wonderful environment for this kind of work. Shy cats get to be surrounded by people having positive, calm interactions with our friendliest cats. They get to watch other cats receive pets, cuddles, treats and attention and learn that sharing space with humans can be a good thing.

Our resident cat Dr. Wolseley is also an important part of the process. He often provides comfort to our shy cats and will even “lure” them over to staff, quite literally showing them how to ask for, and receive affection. 🥹

We use lots of play and treats to give them opportunities to come out of their shell and show us their personalities. We sit nearby and talk to them while they eat. We offer pets in small, manageable sessions, and importantly, we try to stop before they tell us they’ve had enough. This teaches them that we understand their boundaries and that we will respect them.

And then we do it again. And again. And again.

Sometimes progress looks like allowing a single touch. Sometimes it’s choosing to sit closer to us. Sometimes it’s walking across the room instead of hiding.

It can take weeks, months, or even longer. But every tiny step matters. Our goal isn’t to change who these cats are. It’s to help them learn that humans can be safe, predictable, and maybe even pretty nice to have around.

At Catelowna, we want you to know the good, the bad, and the ugly about your future cat before giving you an application to fill out. That’s why we want to talk about Melano, and his “attitude problem.”

Melano wears a caution collar because he’s a cat who is prone to overexcitement and can become overstimulated. While our staff know how to read his body language and recognize when he needs a break, someone meeting him for the first time might mistake those signals for an invitation to keep playing.

He’s looking for someone who understands that cats communicate with their bodies. Someone who can give him plenty of enrichment and adventure, while also respecting when he’s ready to settle down.

Melano would also do best as the only cat in the home. He tends to see other cats as toys instead of roommates (they don’t appreciate his enthusiasm), but he would absolutely love a dog!

And once you’ve earned his trust? He’s one of the sweetest boys you’ll meet. He’ll weave around your legs, demand chin scratches, happily supervise everything you do, and soak up all the attention.

He’s also our #1 adventure cat. We’ve already started harness training, and we think he’d absolutely thrive hiking, camping, and exploring the world safely on leash.

The right person won’t just be adopting a cat, they’ll be gaining the best little adventure buddy they could ask for.

Touch desensitization is one of the most important things we work on with our kittens (and even many of our adult cats!) before they head off to their forever homes. 🐾

Every day, we gently get them used to having their paws touched, ears handled, tails lifted, being picked up, and all the little things they’ll experience throughout their lives. We pair handling with treats, play, and positive experiences so they learn that human touch is safe, not something to fear. It helps make nail trims, vet visits, grooming, and everyday cuddles much less stressful for everyone involved.

Now… this video is not a good example of the methods we use at Catelowna lol. This kitten in particular is a lil weirdo, and was happy to help us get a goofy clip for this reel 😋

The work we put in now helps set them up to be confident, well-adjusted companions for their future families. 💛
