Chantys first opened for business on October 24th 2016. With no commercial kitchen experience at all but a willingness to learn I quit my job with the largest auto group in Edmonton and followed my best friend to open a restaurant in Kamloops.
Upon arrival, we had negotiated the hood vent to be included with the lease but Put nothing in writing. Just as things we were starting to gain traction, we received a demand for full payment for the hood vent which put us in overdraft with our bank. The bank gave us a deadline by which to bring the account back into positive balance, and this was the reason we switched suppliers to cut costs, then TGP offered us a deal on chicken breasts which apparently had been rejected by other restaurants. I’m very sure our day one customers noticed the difference in quality around the same time we had to switch the fries. I took a lot of phone calls about it but my hands were tied.
Our delivery service was overwhelmed especially after we had to cut back on our staff and eventually the doors just had to close.
Due to arrears I had with the Maintenance Enforcement program I was unable to renew my drivers licence or my vehicle registration and so I was unable to return to my previous occupation in the car industry, was pretty much homeless for a few weeks and ended up filing for bankruptcy.
End of 2019 we were in talks of getting back In business, everything was almost lined up then we got hit with the recent pandemic.
