Hey folks! Holy! We're sliding into Labour Day like it's the end of the 9th inning. What have you been up to? We’re coming up for air after a very busy August. We’ve been head down in the kitchen and chin up in the front of the house. So...we may be a little socially tone deaf. It feels like a perfect opportunity to say, pop in for a locally crafted cocktail/mocktail. Or just drop us a note! We'd love to catch up with you.

This is Dave. Dave has spent 10+ years behind the pass, reviewing chits and preparing your meals. He's been a staple in our kitchen and valued part of our team.

Dave is making a move and we are sad to see him go. But we're deeply grateful for his commitment to Main St Local and we are celebrating with him in his next chapter.

That said, we’re now looking to fill a full-time, year-round Prep/Line Cook position. But before we post more info about how to fill Dave's shoes, please take a moment to thank Dave for his years of service, for applying his madskills in our kitchen, and for being an all around good human being.

Leave a line in the comments, or better yet, drop in to see him this week.

Thanks Dave!

Today is the last day of a long weekend, and it’s the perfect day to pop in for some shareables before heading into the work week.

This is your invitation to chill out a little longer. See you soon.

There was something magical about Civic Holiday long weekend when we were kids.

There were sandy feet, sunburned shoulders, card games at the cottage, ball park sausages on the barbecue, fireworks in the distance and just enough daylight left for one more swim.

Some things have changed. Some haven't.

The Civic Holiday still has a way of bringing us together.

Whether you're spending the weekend at the lake, exploring downtown Huntsville, or just taking life at a leisurely pace, we hope you make time for good food and even better company.

After all, years from now, no one will remember what day of the week it was, they'll remember who was around the table.

Speaking of tables, ours are available this holiday long weekend except for Sunday Aug 2nd. We will be closed per our regularly scheduled day off to do a little long weekend memory making ourselves.

Happy Civic Holiday weekend from all of us at Main St. Local.

Do you feel that summer is moving just a little too fast?

It feels like the May long weekend was yesterday, and now we're already talking about August Civic holiday!

If you're keeping score on your summer escapades:

☀️ Have you watched the boats come in through the narrows or better, has your boat docked in a slip on the narrows?
🍦 Have you had a special trip for ice cream after dinner?
🚲 Wandered downtown for an event or celebration?
🍷 Enjoyed a leisurely dinner out with the whole fam?
🌅 Watched the sun set over Lion's Lookout?

If not...

There's still time.

Summer isn't measured by the number of weekends left. It's measured by the memories you make with the people around your table.

Here's to slowing down, staying a little longer and making the most of every beautiful day.

We'll save you a seat.

Can we open up the patio debate? We are in a real catch 22 here folks. It’s patio season… and we are, in fact, the restaurant with no patio.

Some of you may remember that during C*vid, we were given special permission to create a temporary patio out along the side of our resto. Was it beautiful? Not exactly. Did it help get us through the season? Absolutely.

And ever since then, we've been wondering...

On one hand, patio season in Huntsville is a whole vibe. We get it.

But on the other hand…it’s not always that simple.

A patio takes space, planning, approvals, setup, staffing, and a version of the restaurant that actually works well outdoors.

And if we’re being honest, not everyone is a patio person.
Some people love eating outside. And some people would choose indoor comfort, air conditioning, and a guaranteed table every single time.

So what's your opinion on dining preferences?

Are you:
☀️ team patio
❄️ team indoors
🤷 depends on the day

We genuinely want to know.

The cottage group chat has spoken: Nobody is cooking tonight. 😂

Someone’s already been to the dock. Someone forgot to take the burgers out. Someone is “just making a salad,” which somehow means using every bowl in the kitchen. And at least one person has suggested snacks as dinner.

We support all of this.

But, when the whole crew is hungry and no one wants to be in charge of the meal, Main St. Local is here for you. If you’re on Lake Vernon or Fairy Lake, Huntsville, head to the Narrows. There’s a boat slip waiting for you, and we’re right nearby.

Bring the family. Bring friends. Bring the people who said they “weren’t that hungry” and are absolutely going to order fries.
Tag the person in your cottage crew who is always asking, “So… what’s the plan for dinner?”

See you soon!

We read something this week that got us talking.

Apparently, restaurants are not just competing with other restaurants anymore.

Grocery stores, hot counters, prepared meals, grab-and-go dinners are all becoming part of the same conversation:
“I don’t want to cook tonight.”

And honestly? We get it.
Because we already hear this from you.

Sometimes you want the Main St. Local food you love, but not necessarily the full sit-down dinner experience. Sometimes you are heading back to the cottage. Sometimes the kids are tired. Sometimes you have guests coming.

Sometimes the fridge is full and somehow there is still “nothing to eat.”

Our takeout menu is here for those times when you want real food, made by real people, without having to do the planning, prepping, cooking etc.

But it also got us wondering…
Would you want to see more from us in this direction?
More meals to go?
More family-style options?
Maybe ready-to-make comfort food?
More cottage dinner solutions?
More “Ryan made it so I don’t have to” kind of meals?

We are listening.

So tell us: when you think about takeout, or meals-to-go or even meal prep from Main St. Local, what would actually make your life easier?

Some recipes are more than recipes. They are family stories.

Over the years, you may have heard us talk about Ryan roasting Roma tomatoes and making our sauce from scratch…but what you may not know is that the recipe comes from Christina’s Nonnina Verruto.

A proper Italian tomato sauce recipe.

The kind that was not handed over casually. The kind Ryan had to ask for, learn, translate and earn his way into.

Originally written in Italian, this recipe has made its way through generations of family kitchens, Sunday meals and now, into ours at Main St. Local.

When Ryan makes it, he is not opening a jar or taking a shortcut. He is roasting tomatoes, building flavour, and following a family recipe that carries more than ingredients. It carries memory. It carries tradition. It carries the kind of care that cannot be rushed.
That is a big part of our food philosophy here.

Made from scratch does not mean complicated for the sake of it. It means food with roots. Food with patience. Food that has a reason behind it.

And when a recipe is at least four generations old, you treat it with respect.

We found this photo of Nonnina and Nonno Pasquale and just had to share it. Because, behind the sauce, behind the plate and behind the menu is a family story we are grateful to carry forward.

Sunday feels like the right day for that.

We'd love to hear about your family's mealtime stories too!
