People sometimes imagine shoulder season in Muskoka as everything getting quiet overnight. Restaurant life is a little more complicated than that.

Seasonal employees head back to school or move on.
But locals are still here.
Fall-colour visitors arrive.
Catering keeps happening.
The restaurant still fills up.

Except now, sometimes, there are fewer people behind the scenes making all of it happen.

That is one of the strange little realities of running a year-round business in a tourist town. October asks us to adjust.

We shorten the bench.
We prioritize.
We help each other more.
We occasionally get a little crazy.

And then we come back the next morning and start chopping onions again.

If you own or work in a Muskoka business, you probably know exactly what we mean. Cheers to the shoulder-season crew.

Something keeps happening lately that genuinely surprises us.
Someone walks in. We start chatting. And somehow the conversation becomes:

“Actually… this is our first time here.” Now, sometimes they are visiting Huntsville. But sometimes?

They have lived here for years. YEARS. 😂

We are always incredibly grateful for the regulars who keep choosing us. Some of you have been coming through our doors for so long that we know your orders before you sit down.
But apparently there are still people out there who have never been to Main St. Local.

So we have a favour to ask.

Can you find one person who has never been here:
A neighbour.
A coworker.
The friend who always says, “I’ve been meaning to go there.”

And ...invite them. Bring them in.

We would genuinely love to meet them.

And if you are the person who has somehow lived in Huntsville forever and still hasn’t been here…

People have been asking: “Are you doing Thanksgiving dinner takeout this year?” And this year, the answer is no.

Not because we don’t love doing them.
Quite the opposite.

They became so popular that doing them properly requires a whole lot of extra prep, cooking, portioning, packaging and... hands.

And this October, hands are something we are a little short on.

That is part of the reality of running a restaurant in a seasonal town. Summer staff move on. Our year-round kitchen crew gets smaller. Meanwhile, the restaurant is still busy and we already have catering commitments on the books.

We could squeeze Thanksgiving dinners in.
But they would not get the care we want to give them, and neither would the people already sitting in our restaurant.

So this year, we’re choosing to do fewer things and do them well, rather than stretch ourselves too thin.

If you were hoping for one of our Thanksgiving dinners, thank you. Seriously. The fact that you ask every year means a lot to us.

AND... if you’re sick of turkey by next week, we’ll have you covered. :)

There’s a point every fall in Muskoka when you can feel things start to shift.

The docks start coming out. The traffic changes.
Some of our seasonal staff head back to school or wherever life takes them next.

Suddenly, it’s soup weather.

We love summer. Truly.
But October has its own kind of magic.

It’s familiar faces walking through the door. A little less hurry, a little more conversation. Around here, we don’t really think of it as the off-season.

It’s local season.
Come see us.

September was a busy one around here, and it reminded us that sometimes it’s the little things that make a visit.

A hello when you walk through the door. A real answer when you ask what’s good. A little help narrowing down the menu. Taking the time to understand a dietary need. Or bringing two forks with dessert because we know you’re probably going to share. 🙂

These are some of the little things we’ve been working on with our team, and we’ll keep working on them because bringing people to the table is about more than what’s on the plate.

When you tell us you’re gluten-free, we know that can mean different things.

A preference, sensitivity, allergy or celiac diagnosis each requires a different conversation, so please let your server know what you need.

That gives us the chance to ask questions, check with the kitchen and be clear about what we can and can’t accommodate.

We’d always rather have the conversation than make assumptions.

Fall social schedules have a funny way of filling up.

From team gatherings to Cottage-closing weekends. Then there are birthdays, weddings. and family dinners.
