Huntsville, Ontario. The month of October. šŸ

Anything less than calling our landscape breathtaking would just be an understatement.

We are all so very blessed to call Muskoka home.

And to operate a business here in Muskoka?

Very, very blessed indeed.

I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say a heartfelt thank you to all the tourists who came up to our town to enjoy and take in the natural beauty that Huntsville and Muskoka have to offer.

Thank you for visiting our little town, exploring the area, enjoying the scenery, and supporting our local businesses while you’re here. Every restaurant, shop, attraction and small business in Huntsville benefits from the people who choose to come here.

Today at Smokin’ Hot BBQ, we sold out.

Yes… completely sold out.

But we also emptied our trailers and our fridge for tomorrow as well.

So…

We will be CLOSED TOMORROW.

A huge thank you as well to Ben and Gord McPherson from McPherson Motorsports for bringing their race car down to the Old Train Station today.

It’s always a lot of fun when they fire that beast up! šŸ

So have an amazing night tonight, everyone.

Take a moment to appreciate this beautiful place we get to call home.

And again, thank you to everyone who came to Huntsville, supported our town, and supported all of the businesses that make this community what it is.

We truly appreciate it.

Smokin’ Hot BBQ will be CLOSED TOMORROW.

See you soon. ā¤ļøšŸ

COMMUNITY

I was having a conversation with my daughter a little while ago about growing up in the 70s and 80s.

I know… clichĆ©, right?

But hear me out.

We grew up with pretty solid foundations. There were parameters. There were expectations. And somehow, we all seemed to understand that we were part of something bigger than just ourselves.

We lived in communities.

We couldnt wait until dinner was finished , and yes that means eating all of your peas, wash up , and hurry outside..be back when mom called though,

Street hockey. Basketball. Riding our bikes. Trading hockey cards. Talking about the heroes on the ice.

We knew our neighbours.

How many times did we end up at the neighbour's house for a BBQ?

If Mom and Dad were out, we'd go next door until they got home.

Someone always seemed to know where you were.

Someone always seemed to be looking out for you.

There was a lot of interaction. A lot of talking. A lot of sitting around a table. A lot of people simply being together.

I'm not saying everything was better back then. It wasn't.

But sometimes I wonder if we've lost a little bit of that connection.

We've become busy. We're connected to everybody through our phones, yet sometimes we're not really connected to the people sitting a few doors away.

Maybe that's why I think about those days so often.

Not because I want to go backwards.

But because I think there was something pretty special about knowing your neighbours, sitting around a table, sharing a meal, watching the kids play, and just being together.

Maybe we could use a little more of that again.

Because at the end of the day, before we were customers, businesses, followers, friends on Facebook or strangers walking past each other…

we were neighbours.

OCTOBER

Well, we made it.

What a season. Honestly, this has been our best season yet, and we want to take a moment to simply say THANK YOU.

Thank you to everyone who came to our bbq this season...our local friends, cottagers, visitors from across Canada, and people who travelled from all over the world to experience a little piece of what we do here at the Old Train Station.

We really are blessed to live and work here in Muskoka..

So now we welcome the month of October...

The gateway to winter....

The days are getting shorter, the leaves are changing, the nights are getting colder, and before we know it, the snow will be here.

As Jon Snow famously said...

ā€œWinter is coming.ā€

Seems like only yesterday we were coming out of winter, and now we're already heading back into it.

But that's Muskoka.

Four seasons, the price of living in paradise...

Our Open Mic has now finished for the season. A huge thank you to everyone who came out, played, sang, listened and supported it. We'll see you again when Open Mic returns next year.

We have two more Sundays left before Sundays are finished for the season.

And our last day of BBQ for the fall will be Saturday, October 24, after which we will be closing for 5 weeks to get ready for winter...

Yes we will be open this winter....
Saturdays Only this year...

From all of us at Smokin Hot BBQ & Live Music Venue —

Thank you, Muskoka. ā¤ļø

We can cook the BBQ...

but it takes all of you to make this place what it is.

THANK YOU, SMOKIN’ HOT BBQ!

We’re so grateful to Smokin’ Hot BBQ for supporting the 11th Annual Radiothon in a delicious way! On October 9, 50% of rib sales will be donated to Huntsville Hospital Foundation in support of Raise Muskoka.

We’d love to see more local businesses get involved too. Create a special, donate a portion of your sales, challenge your team, or come up with your own creative way to support local healthcare.

When local businesses come together, we can make a big difference for the future of healthcare in Muskoka. Thank you to Larry and Julie and the team at Smokin’ Hot BBQ, for leading the way!
