Conversations with Creeping Bellflower
“Come close, pull me with your bare hands, slow your life down, quiet your mind and visit often. I have much to share, it’s been a while since we talked.”
This year the ‘dreaded weed’ decided to move into the yard. Many of you have noticed its over the top this year. I've witnessed it as being similar to a spider or a mouse in that has the power to evoke so much attention to it. Typically in the form of fear and loathing, but it’s a plant you notice right? Humans shriek and yearn to eradicate it, focusing all this energy and frequency towards it. Then wrap their arms around the precious chosen plants and do everything to protect them. I get it.
And, It is in these precious moments, that I love to talk to plants, especially the intrusive ones, the ones that ‘don’t belong’. And with this particular one, I asked oh so lovingly.
What the F are you doing here?
After asking, I spend time observing my new roommate. Where is it growing, how is it growing, where are the roots, how can I reuse you? how does it taste (lol), does my body like you, what can I learn? These are questions I truly ask them, yup! Everyone reading this talks to plants, consciously or unconsciously your talking to plants. They hear you, they know and understand your intentions …and they yearn to communicate with you too. Slow down, you’ll hear them.
So, It was during this communion of observation that I noticed areas of sparce leaves. As I pluck them I’m only able to grab one little leaf at a time. It like they are connected to nothingness…so that seems fruitless to focus any energy on these. They are but a distraction.
Then I observe the ‘mother’. She’s different and has strength to her, supported by a strong stem she has harnessed energy and wrapped herself with larger heavier leaves in a pleasing pattern and I can tell she has one goal in mind…get as tall as possible to sow her seeds. Well hello. As I pull this mother, I notice this is where all the roots are. Ah-ha. Bingo. So I now focus my calm energy on these mothers and slowly coax the roots out of the ground. There is pleasure in getting clean roots, I can feel the difference between a hasty tug and a mindful slow pull. So I continue in this way, all the while talking to her.
In this union, I share my intention. Dude, ya gotta move out…they issue fines for your very existence and people complain about you….often. And she shared, ok, spend some time with me. I’ll show you what to do, just listen and come visit often.
The visiting often is her sense of humor. See, in order to ‘remove her’ I now have committed to regular visits as she continues on her way spreading a message.
