👋 We need you.

The Grand Narrows Waterfront is a community-run, volunteer-powered organization and we're actively looking for new members to help keep it going.

There are two ways to get involved: join our board of directors and have a say in where this place is headed (monthly meetings), or or add your name to our volunteer list and help out when it works for you.

Our AGM is coming up soon so it's the perfect time to join!

Happy June from Grand Narrows! ☀️

If you know this place, you know that June means something. The days are longer, the Barra Strait is beautiful, and the area is coming back to life.

The Wheelhouse Cafe is getting ready to open for another season and we couldn't be more excited. We're a volunteer-run non-profit and every summer is another season of good food, good company, and a place worth stopping for.

Opening date coming soon. Watch this space. ⛵🍦

Did anyone have snow at the end of May on their bingo card? 🥶

Due to the cold temperatures and wet weather, we’ve decided to postpone the Annual Volunteer Clean-up and BBQ originally scheduled for this Sunday, May 31.

With all the great festivities happening next week at Àros na Mara Discovery Centre for World Oceans Day, we’re moving the clean-up to Saturday, June 13 instead.

We hope to see you there and hopefully with a little more sunshine and warmth this time around! ☀️

Did you know the water at the Grand Narrows Waterfront comes from a spring that has been flowing since the 1800s? 💧

Since 1993, GNWDS volunteers have maintained the entire system including patching lines, rebuilding the cistern, and reconstructing the catchment basin after it was damaged. Parts of the system are still 140 years old and more work will be needed in the years ahead.

This water is a vital community resource but it isn't free to maintain. We've installed a donation box near the public water spout. If you use it, please consider leaving a donation to help keep this historic system running for the community for years to come. Every bit helps. Thank you! 💙

Know someone between 15 and 30 looking for a great summer job? We still have two Canada Summer Jobs positions open at the Grand Narrows Waterfront! ⚓🎉

One role is hands-on and outdoors... think groundskeeping, maintenance, painting, cleaning, and keeping our waterfront looking its best while helping visitors feel welcome.

The other is all about people and programming... event planning, hosting, marketing and social media, community outreach, and helping bring events to life right here on the Bras d'Or Lakes.

Both positions are 35 hours per week for 8 weeks at $16.75/hour, starting late June. Students and non-students welcome.

Every spring our community comes together to get the waterfront ready for the season and we'd love to have you join us this year!

Our Annual Volunteer Clean-up and BBQ is Sunday, May 31 starting at 10:30 a.m. Bring gloves, a rake, or a shovel if you have them.

We'll tackle the grounds together and wrap up with a BBQ lunch. All are welcome! Bring a friend and come say hello!

The washrooms, showers, and laundry are open for the season! 🙌

If you're passing through Grand Narrows or just need to freshen up, we've got you covered. As a volunteer-run non-profit, we work hard to keep these facilities available for our community and visitors.
