I don't know how "Arts" and "Entertainment" ended up in the same section of the newspaper. They're polar opposites, if you think about it. The purpose of Entertainment is to distract the masses and render us harmless, whereas Art is supposed to be dangerous to those who would render us harmless. Art, whether it's visual art, poetry, storytelling, songwriting or any other art form, is dangerous to the status quo. Entertainment is Mainstream, art is Fringe, and the Mainstream grows from the Fringe, so when the vision offered by the Fringe is attractive to the Mainstream, the Mainstream evolves toward that vision. If that evolution violates the plans of those people, Governments and those who work with or control them, they need to take control of the Fringe so they can control the vision the Fringe produces. A good and effective way of doing that is by offering this poor, struggling Fringe money with strings attached. In that way, the Fringe becomes Mainstream without realising it.

A song I wrote after a nightmare I had after reading a biography of Hank Williams. I was driving a big car, maybe a Dodge or a Pontiac from the mid-sixties, in a field of tall, dry grass, trying to find a road, being chased by ghosts. I was absolutely terrified, crying out. In the morning I asked Nora why she didn't wake me up (I'd told her years before never to let me sleep through one of those, that if I cried out to wake me up) and she said it didn't sound like I was crying out, it sounded more like I was singing. She went to work and I got up, but the nightmare stayed with me, chills up and down my spine all morning, terror running through my veins for real. I couldn't shake it. Then I thought well, if she thought I was singing, then maybe I should try singing, so I wrote this song and it worked, the nightmare went away, and I dedicated the song to Hank Williams:
