Please Vote for US! https://smallbusinessbc.ca/awards/nominee/2022/wheatberries-bakery-davis-bay/
Last week we were really touched to be nominated by someone in the community for this year’s Business Impact Award offered through Small Business BC . We were nominated for our work in our Wheatberries Bakery Davis Bay location addressing food insecurity on the Sunshine Coast.
In March 2020, as a family, we decided to pivot our work in Wheatberries Bakery Davis Bay towards a frozen meal program that would provide food for our community. Initially in partnership with Drift Cafe, we launched the Sunshine Coast Food Service Response meal program. For every six meals that the program sells one is donated to community. In May 2020, as other production partners in the program were transitioning back to retail operations, we made the difficult decision to not re-open our storefront. Requests for the meals were increasing, as were the number of local families struggling with food insecurity. We decided to focus deeper on this work, build more of our business around impact, and have been running the program since then as a team of four.
We’re usually quite quiet on social media. However we wanted to ask for some help, both in voting for us if that makes sense to you, and sharing the news of the nomination. Apparently we just have One week of the 4 week window left to receive votes, so anything you’re comfortable with would sure be appreciated. Votes can be cast above or here....

We’re very proud of the impact of our work over the last couple years, and would be excited to share that story with the wider audience that the BC Small Business Awards would give us.
Feels like business and community lifting each other up is the kind of story we all need to hear right now.
This work has been and continues to be an amazing journey. It’s been a ton of effort, yet during difficult times it’s also provided us with a wonderfully positive thing to focus on as a family. We appreciate deeply the relationships built with partners in the program and the public’s amazing support.
Last week we celebrated the programs 5400th meal donation.
Sincerely
Jane, Brianna, Maren, and Mark Yellowley
