Barefoot Gecko Cantina Mexicana

When our sister Sally Graham opened the Gecko in 2019, she personally designed every last detail to deliver her vision. From the brickwork, to the tile, to the roofing, she wanted diners to feel like they were being transported to another world, for at least a few hours. She was amazed at how much joy the Barefoot Gecko brought to the community – locals and visitors alike.

After Sally passed away in 2020, we were proud to carry on her vision, and be a part of the Gecko's story. Thanks to the talent and hard work of Andrea, Carlos, and the rest of the team, the Gecko succeeded through a very challenging three years.

However, with neither of us living locally, we can't give the Gecko what it needs to continue to deliver to the high standard both Sally and our customers would expect. That is why we have come to the difficult decision to close the Barefoot Gecko Cantina Mexicana.

And although it is a sad day for us, we are equally thrilled to give a new local restaurateur a chance to thrive, and there will soon be an exciting pizza bar called The Bay located at 444 Gower Point Road! We hope you will support it when it opens later this year.

We are grateful that Sally got to see her dream of owning a Mexican restaurant brought to life, and for the Gecko to have been a part of so many special memories. Thank you from all of us for your support and loyalty.

They’ve both been here since day one and have dedicated their vibrant personalities, hard work and absolute dedication to providing you with the best customer service experience you could hope for. We could never have been the best new restaurant without them. Thank you Pepper and Elle 🌻

Yup, we're confirming the rumour, our seasonal shutdown is taking place a little earlier than normal this year, due to some staffing changes.

Our last night of full service of the restaurant will be Friday, August 26th. We will be running our food truck after that - watch for further announcements on opening hours.

After September, we are losing our brilliant kitchen team Carlos and Yohanna as they move back to Nova Scotia after 3 years on the Sunshine Coast. As well, Andrea, the best general manager on the Pacific Coast, is taking time off to focus on her schooling.

We'd love for you all to come in and say adios a final time before we reopen next year!
