Yesterday we came together for Downtown Fredericton Inc.’s 2026 Annual General Meeting. A chance to celebrate the people and businesses that continue to shape our downtown community!

Some highlights from the past year:
• 15 new businesses joined downtown in 2025.
• Over 18,000 net sq. ft. absorbed.
• $248,865 in Downtown Dollars sold, the highest annual total in 3 years.
• Nearly $2 million in Downtown Dollars redeemed locally since 2020.

We were also excited to officially launch our new brand identity and tagline — Indulge. Innovate. Inspire. — reflecting the creativity, energy, and vibrancy of downtown Fredericton.

During the event, we recognized several outstanding contributions to downtown Fredericton!

Savage Properties Ltd. received the Facade Improvement Award
Mike Babineau received the Mazzucca Award
Zach Atkinson received the inaugural Tony’s Music Box Award

May 2026 marks the 25th Anniversary of River Valley Footwear opening in Downtown Fredericton!

In May 2001, we expanded from our roots in Miramichi at The County Cobbler (formerly Traboulsee’s Shoe Repair) and opened River Valley Footwear at 498 Queen Street in Downtown Fredericton.

As we celebrate this milestone, we are incredibly grateful for the support of our community over the past 25 years. Thank you to all of our loyal customers, and to the many staff members - past and present - who have been part of this journey serving the footwear needs of the Fredericton area.

Our story began over 100 years ago:

• 1924 - Kaleel Traboulsee, grandfather of current co-owner David Traboulsee, founded Traboulsee’s Shoe Repair in Newcastle, N.B. In addition to repairing footwear, Kaleel crafted custom-made shoes and boots while also retailing manufactured footwear.

• 1984 - David & Brenda Traboulsee and Joe Hawkes purchased the family business under their new corporation, T&H Ventures Ltd.

• 2001 - River Valley Footwear opened at the corner of Queen & Carleton Streets in Downtown Fredericton.

• 2026 - River Valley Footwear proudly celebrates 25 years in Fredericton.

From the beginning, our focus has been to provide quality brand-name comfort footwear, supported by exceptional customer service and competitive pricing.

We look forward to continuing to help properly fit our customers with some of the most comfortable and trusted footwear brands available today.

This is more than a new look, it’s a new chapter for us and we’re excited for what’s ahead!
