𝐓𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐲-𝐭𝐰𝐨 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬.
Two years ago, we were celebrating
Patricia Street Deli turning 20.
We remember standing in a room full
of people thinking, 𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘭𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘦?
A few days later, we were packing our lives into vehicles, evacuating Jasper, not knowing if we’d ever come home. Not knowing if our business would survive.
Not knowing what our future looked like.
If someone had told us that night where we’d be today, we never would have believed them.
Life has a way of rewriting stories
when you least expect it.
Sometimes it tears the pages
right out of your hands.
But sometimes… if you’re unbelievably lucky
… people help write the next chapter with you.
Tomorrow we celebrate 22 years of Patricia Street Deli.
Not because we made it here on our own.
Because we were carried.
By our family.
By our staff.
By our customers who refused to let us disappear.
By the Jasper community.
By Edmonton, who welcomed us with open arms.
By our vendors who gave us grace.
By our suppliers.
By contractors and tradespeople
who built these walls.
By volunteers.
By Kickstarter Backers and donors.
By Servus Credit Union.
By musicians who filled this place with life.
By neighbouring businesses who cheered us on.
By every person who shared a post, bought a sandwich, sent an encouraging message, recommended us to a friend, purchased a Kindness Sandwich, hired us to cater, or simply walked through our doors and said, “𝘞𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘨𝘭𝘢𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶’𝘳𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬.”
You carried us.
When we didn’t know what tomorrow
looked like…you believed there would be one.
There were days when grief
was louder than hope.
Days when opening another box,
signing another invoice,
making another decision,
or smiling through another
conversation felt impossible.
But somehow, piece by piece,
person by person,
we kept going.
And now this little deli that started in Jasper
twenty-two years ago is alive again.
different.
scarred. marked by hardship,
loss and healing.
missing pieces.
but maybe even more rooted
in what mattered all along.
It was never just sandwiches.
It has always been people.
Community.
Connection.
the conversations
across a table.
the hugs.
the laughter.
the tears.
the feeling that for just a little while,
someone belongs.
If these last two years have taught
us anything, it’s this:
Buildings can disappear.
Plans can change overnight.
The future can look nothing like you imagined.
But kindness endures.
Community endures.
Love endures.
Tomorrow we’ll celebrate another birthday.
Not because twenty-two is a milestone.
But because every single year now feels like a gift.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
Thank you for carrying our family
when we couldn’t carry ourselves.
We will spend the rest of our lives
trying to give even a fraction of that love back.
Happy 22nd birthday, Patricia Street Deli.
What an extraordinary story you’ve become.
