We all know the Yellowhead project the $1+ billion project that’s already over budget. And before you come for me in the comments: yes, there’s inflation etc etc etc. Yes, there are cost overruns…but…

This is about supplier performance, project management, and accountability. This from the DMs exanpme shows a way the city probably is getting robbed blind.

We had a sitting councillor say five years ago that she had “seen the waste on the Yellowhead project” and was going to “hold them accountable”. Five years later, where’s that accountability? Zip. Nadda.

This is the bigger issue: how do we get ahead of this?
We need a City Manager who doesn’t bury problems, and a Council that holds the City Manager accountable. Both gaps in the system. We need procurement that actually manages supplier performance and project teams that effectively manage billion-dollar projects.

When projects are costing taxpayers billions, we need to know who is responsible, what went wrong, and what’s being done to prevent it from happening again.

This is yet another example of how the City is wasting money and why we need better accountability from the top down. No doubt this message from the DMs is probably true, we just need a city who cares. All Eddie needs to do is ask for proof all the units were operating, via log hours, what they did. That’s what project management is right?

Another longtime downtown Edmonton business is closing its doors.

The Gardens has announced the immediate closure of its original downtown location. The local sports bar, which first opened downtown before expanding with a second location earlier this year, will now operate exclusively from its Wîhkwêntôwin location.

The closure adds to the growing list of restaurants and bars that have shut down in Edmonton’s downtown core.
