We’ve always been huge fans of the Visitors Guides, but the 2026 edition is extra special special for us.

In this year’s guide included a beautiful feature showcasing some of the amazing culinary talent in our city. Is was an honour to be included alongside these incredible people who continue to put Halifax on the culinary map!

We also love that this feature was photographed by the talented . Her stunning photos did an incredible job capturing all of these craftspeople in their element.

12 years ago today, this crazy adventure kicked off! ⚓️

The original Canteen opened its doors on this day back in 2014, just above in the space now occupied by .

Looking back now, it feels a little wild to think we did this with a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old in tow. The early days were often chaotic as we tried to juggle the demands of a new business with a young family, but somehow, we made it work!

We were welcomed with open arms by the incredible community of Dartmouth on day one, and that support has been with us ever since. We built a solid crew of regulars right out of the gate, and it’s amazing to see those same friendly faces at the restaurant to this day.

The journey from Ochterloney to our current home on Portland Street has been a total roller coaster ride, but the highs have always outweighed the lows. We are extremely proud of what our family and our team have managed to build together.

As always, we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us make this dream a reality. 🙏🙏❤️❤️

Pickle-brined. Crispy-fried. Pimento-cheesed. Hot-honey-drizzled. The FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH IS BACK and it’s the sandwich of the week. Available this week for lunch only (or until we run out!)

🙏🎉 We had an absolute blast last night hosting a collab dinner at The Canteen with our good pals and neighbours from . We had a packed dining room full of amazing guest who were treated to a beautiful menu crafted by and . We had a rock start team in the front and back of house making the whole night feel like a dinner party being hosted at our home.

We have so many great neighbours in downtown Dartmouth, but Micheal & Louisa have created such a gem at . It was so nice to have the chance to welcome them into our kitchen to make some delicious food together! ❤️

We’re looking forward to more collab dinners like this in the coming months. Many of you have asked how to be notified about these special events. Our best advice is to sign up for our email list (link in profile) if you haven’t already done so because that’s where we announce these events first. Last night’s event was booked solid within about 24 hours - so we didn’t event get a chance to post it on social media. Stay tuned for the next one!
