ON A SUNDAY /// We are here on Sundays, just like we used to be. We really enjoyed having Sundays off during the shoulder seasons so we’re probably going to do that again. That’s not important at the moment. What is important, however, is that you can come here on Sundays till at least the fall. We’re here! We have food! We have beer! Open till 9, Wednesday-Sunday for time being. Apologies to Tuesday and the people who like coming here on Tuesday. We’ll get that fixed soon enough :)

WE MADE THIS FOR YOU /// So our plans needed to be adjusted temporarily because some things are more important than cheeseburgers. Rather than bludgeon ourselves with the blunt instrument of additional manual labour, we’ll hold onto a 5 day schedule until we’re at full strength. In the meantime, we’ll be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and open 11:30-9:00 every other day of the week. We will let you all know when we’re adding the Tuesday to the rotation, but for now this is how it be. Thanks for your patience, unconditional love, and understanding. Byeeeeeeee!

HEY YOU /// Yeah! You! Today is Monday and we’re closed because it’s Monday. However, we’re going to be closed tomorrow (Tuesday May 19th) to recover after a busy weekend. We’ll then be back to normal on Wednesday and Thursday (11:30-8:00). On Friday we’re going to adjust to our “summer hours”, extending operations by one full hour. That means we’ll be open until 9pm until we decide that it’s not summer any more. That’s not all. There’s still more information. Many people have been mad at us for closing on Sundays. We don’t like that feeling. Therefore, we’ll be open on Sundays beginning Sunday May 24th. Barring any strangeness, we’ll be holding these hours till the beginning of October. 1130-900, every day that isn’t Monday. Thank you for reading this. OOOOOPS ALL BRASSNECK /// Our fair province has a number of truly great breweries. We have a mere four taps to showcase them, and tend to give most of our love and attention to a few. are my favourite of all. Are they the best? I’m not sure that’s really a thing anyone should really care about too deeply. What I do care about is that they’ve had me convinced since day one that THEY’RE trying THEIR best. They have never said as much with words or anything like that, it just ends up being obvious once it gets in the glass. To me it’s clear, obvious, and something I admire. I would bet actual dollars that the folks involved would rather not be gushed about in this way but they can’t stop me because I’m here and they’re all the way over in the big city. The good news is that you don’t have to go there and see them to have an opportunity to try a bunch of their stuff - you can come here. It’s way faster than commuting to Vancouver. Also? You don’t even need to be hungry. It’s ok to just sit in the sun and have a beer. It’s possible that you may eventually become hungry and we can help with that too, but it’s not mandated. Other breweries we carry are also greatly and loved, too. It’s not a contest. Brassneck is special to me, though, and that’s why we accidentally have four of their beers on tap right now. That’s it! BY HAND /// This place is called COOKS because we are cooks and enjoy the act of preparing and cooking food. We have a simple and small menu, but that allows us to put more of our energy into a few things. This is the marinated cabbage that goes on the SPICY CHICKEN SANDWICH. It exists in the realm between fresh and pickled, maintaining properties of both states so it can do the job of providing a sweet & sour foil to the spicy parts of the sandwich. We slice it, salt it, and then marinate it for at least 24 hours before it is deemed “sandwich ready”. The marinade is simple but we make that too. This place is made up of dozens of these processes and steps. The end result, at the very least, is food that is uniquely ours. Probably didn’t see yourself reading about cabbage today, did you? Well here we are, dear reader.

WE’RE WORKING ON IT /// The online ordering remains unavailable while we adjust to our new point of sale system. There are so many small things that go into a transition like this, but we’re making progress. I think? For people who are ok ordering at the restaurant we’re very open. WHAT HAPPENED ON SPRING BREAK /// Today marks our triumphant return to the restaurant after a week of doing chores and also some other things. Me? I did this picture and it might end up on a t shirt if you convince me it’s the right thing to do. You’ll notice that the patio looks real nice and that’s because Chris gave it a makeover. We also are switching our point of sale system and today is the first day of that going live - online ordering isn’t quite ready, and we’re all going to be learning the ins and outs of a completely new system. We openly resist this kind of change but it was time and this should make us better in a number of ways. Until we’ve got it figured out, be extra nice to us. It helps. Anywho - the break was nice but it’s time to push for the next six months or so. Buckle up, amigos.

ANOTHER DAY CLOSER TO OUR VACATION /// Here we go again. Some people don’t work tomorrow, but not us! We’ll be here trying our best to be good for those of you who enjoy long weekends. Our break starts on Sunday and we’re looking forward to it. Please come get food before then because we won’t cook for you during our break. It’s illegal. Also illegal? Eating kiwis with the skin intact. But that’s not as illegal as cheering for the Los Angeles Dodgers. That one’s really bad.
