Cochrane & Area Humane Society Meet your new best friend at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society! Dogs receive training and behaviour assistance to make them good canine citizens.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surgery, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

This Thanksgiving, we asked some of the shelter animals what they're thankful for…

A Warm Bed
My Future Family
Someone Who Believes in Me
A Second Chance
Feeling Safe
Belly Rubs
Extra Treats

Most of all, they're thankful for the people who make their care possible.

This Thanksgiving, we're grateful for our community.

Thank you for helping these animals get the care, comfort and support they need while they wait for a place to call home.

Learning theory matters.

But putting that knowledge into practice matters too.

One of the defining parts of PACE is the opportunity to develop your skills through hands-on experience with a wide variety of dogs.

Students work with dogs of different breeds, sizes, ages and behavioural needs while developing their handling, training and observation skills.

It’s where classroom knowledge meets real-life situations.
Because dogs don't come with a textbook attached.

Can you believe these puppies are nearly six weeks old?

Dorothy and her 13 puppies have come a long way since their arrival. The pups are growing, exploring, and showing off their personalities, while Dorothy continues to be the best mom around.

Enjoy this little update on one of our favourite families.

💖 Josie (formerly Mable) is living her best life in her forever home!

She's been busy learning her new name, picking up a few tricks, and showing off some seriously impressive zoomies. 🐾 Her favourite thing? Playing with the kids and soaking up every bit of love and attention she can get.

Seeing happy tails like Josie's reminds us why adopters make all the difference. 🥰

What an incredible weekend of books, baking, and community spirit!

Our Book & Bake Sale was one of our most popular community events of the year, drawing a fantastic turnout of supporters eager to shop, connect, and help animals in need. Thanks to the generosity of our community, the event raised more than $12,000 for the animals in the care of the Cochrane & Area Humane Society.

These funds will help provide food, shelter, medical care, enrichment, and daily support for animals waiting to find their forever families.

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing sponsors, Pet Valu Cochrane and Pascal's Patisserie, whose support helped make this highly attended event possible.

To everyone who donated books, contributed baking, volunteered their time, attended the sale, and helped spread the word: thank you. Your support directly impacts the lives of local animals and gives them a second chance at finding loving homes.

We're already nose-deep in our new books and delicious treats, and we can't wait to do it all again next year!

📚 What book did you take home? 🥐 Did you discover a new favourite baked treat?
