12 PM – 8 PM daily
Monday, August 31 – Tuesday, September 8 (the day after Labour Day)

We’ll also be open for SOMMO Weekend:
Saturday & Sunday, September 12–13

After that, we’re still considering opening on additional weekends in September, depending on customer demand/support and staff availability.

🦪 CAJUN FRIED PEI MUSSELS 🦪

This one might be a little different — and we know it might not be for everyone!

We steam the PEI mussels first, then deep-fry them and finish them with Cajun seasoning for a different way to enjoy one of the Island’s favourites.

One thing we’re still getting used to in PEI is how differently the weather affects a restaurant. 🌧️☀️

When we operated our Asian restaurant in New Brunswick, we actually loved rainy days because we knew we would be busy!

We only had four tables for dine-in, and most of our business was takeout. On rainy days, people would place an order and stop by to pick it up on their way home. Sunny days were often quieter because everyone wanted to get outside.

Now it’s almost the complete opposite. 😅

With Fryday Sundae Café and Rick’s Fish & Chips and Seafood House, sunny days are usually our busiest days, while rainy days can be much quieter — just like today.

So we’ve been thinking about how we can make rainy and cooler days a little more enjoyable too.

At Fryday Sundae Café, one of our plans for next year is to add hot and iced coffee, create some heated or covered seating areas, and yes — you may also see a few Asian-inspired fusion dishes that work well for takeout finding their way onto the menu. ☕🍜

And at Rick’s Fish & Chips in St. Peter’s Bay, we’re thinking about bringing back some Asian dishes as early as September this year — just a few weeks from now — to give you some different options as the weather starts to cool down.

Before moving to PEI, we served a mix of Thai, Chinese, Korean and Japanese food, including sushi, so there are quite a few dishes we could bring back.

One of our signature dishes was Sweet & Sour Chicken Balls, which some of you may remember we brought back for just one day as a special at Captain Kidd’s last summer.

☀️ Cavendish from a Different View 💙

One of our customers shared this beautiful drone photo with us, and we just had to share it too.

You can spot Fryday Sundae Café — Captain Kidd’s Edition below, surrounded by green fields, Cavendish, and the water in the distance. It’s such a nice reminder of how beautiful this part of PEI is in the summer.

We haven’t had as many sunny days as we hoped for this season, so we’re really enjoying days like today. ☀️ Hopefully we’ll get a few more before summer ends — and if not, there’s always next year. 💙

With just a few weeks left in our second season at Captain Kidd’s, we thought this would be a good time to share a little about what we’ve learned this summer — and what we already know we want to improve for next year. 💙

What We Learned at Captain Kidd’s: EP01 — A Fresh Start 💙

Although this is our second season at Captain Kidd’s, in many ways this year has felt like our first real chance to start making the place our own.

Last year, we were still travelling back and forth between PEI and New Brunswick while operating our restaurant there as well. We eventually decided to move to PEI permanently and sold our restaurant in NB, but by the time everything was completed and we moved here, the summer season had already started.

Because of that, there simply wasn’t enough time before opening to make all the changes we already knew we wanted to make.

So this summer, we focused on what we could improve while staying open — especially painting and refreshing the property to make it brighter, cleaner and easier to maintain.

We’ve painted the counter and picnic tables, added new signs and playground equipment, reorganized kitchen equipment and storage, and made many smaller improvements behind the scenes.

There is still more painting to do too. The deck and railings are high on our list. We deep-cleaned the deck before the season, including pressure washing, but we believe properly painting and finishing these areas will make them look better and also make daily cleaning easier.

Is Captain Kidd’s where we want it to be yet? Not yet.

There is still a lot more we want to do — including bigger ideas like a covered, heated patio/deck so the space can be more comfortable on cooler, windy, or rainy PEI days. It’s one of several ideas we’re looking at as we plan for next season.

The biggest difference is that this fall and spring, we’ll finally have time to work on Captain Kidd’s before the next summer season begins — something we simply didn’t have this year.

We’re happy with some of the improvements we’ve been able to make this summer, but we also know there is much more to do. Next year, we plan to do better — with more painting, more improvements, and a cleaner, brighter and more welcoming Captain Kidd’s. 💙

We hope those of you who knew Captain Kidd’s before have already noticed some of the small changes.

Next summer, we hope you’ll notice many more. 💙

Missing those sunny Cavendish summer days… ☀️🍦

In our opinion, Cavendish has some of the most beautiful sunsets in PEI — and this view from Captain Kidd’s is one of our favourites.

This summer seems to have given us a lot more cloudy skies and rainy days, and we haven’t seen evenings like this nearly as often as we remember from last year.

And we have to admit… we miss them.

We miss the warm sunshine, the colourful evening sky, people sitting outside, and that simple feeling of enjoying a soft serve while the sun slowly goes down.

Maybe it’s all the grey days that make us appreciate photos like this even more.

We’re still hoping the next few weeks bring back a little bit of that summer we’ve been missing — sunshine, blue skies, warm evenings and soft serve under the sun. ☀️

Come on, PEI summer… we know you’re still in there somewhere.
