Today, we wear orange to honour Survivors of residential schools, remember the children who never returned home, and recognize the lasting impacts that continue to affect Indigenous communities.
But Truth and Reconciliation is about more than remembering. It means learning the history of this land, listening to Indigenous voices and leadership, recognizing the ongoing impacts of colonialism, and taking meaningful steps toward building relationships based on respect, understanding and action.
Reconciliation is not something that happens in one day. Today is an opportunity to reflect on where we are, continue learning, and consider how we can contribute to reconciliation throughout the year.
We encourage you to follow, learn from and support Indigenous-led organizations and businesses today and throughout the year. Check out our list of local organizations and businesses above!
Have a favourite Indigenous-owned business, artist or organization we should know about? Share it in the comments so others can discover and support them too. 🧡
