This Halloween: Phil vs Seb.Years of coffee obsession have brought them to this moment. Two founders. One final showdown. And, for reasons we’re still working out, an exceptional Catuaí from Costa Rica.Produced by Carlos Castro Solano at Rio Jorco in Tarrazú, this coffee is sweet, round, and tastes like a Halloween candy bag: Peanut Butter Cups, Marshmallow, and Snickers. The battle may be terrifying. The coffee is not. Available now.

Coffee passes through an extraordinary number of hands before it reaches yours.

Hands that plant and tend trees, pick cherries, sort, ferment, wash, dry, mill, move, roast, and brew. Behind every cup are years of knowledge, countless decisions, long days, changing seasons and an enormous amount of care.

On International Coffee Day, we’re thinking about the people behind all of it. The producers, families, millers, exporters, partners and teams we have the privilege of working alongside, year after year.

Coffee has brought some remarkable people into our lives. We’re deeply thankful for their trust, their tireless work, and everything they continue to teach us.

Here’s to the many, many hands behind every cup 🖤.

Just got back from another amazing trip to Ecuador, and I'm still buzzing. It's so cool to see how much producers here have levelled up over the years, and every visit the bar sits a little higher. I cupped with longtime friends, walked the farms, ate ripe cherries straight off the trees, jumped into freezing mountain rivers, ate more ceviche than I'll admit to, and tasted a ton of seriously great coffee. More than anything I'm grateful for the hospitality, the long conversations, and the coffee. Always the coffee.

Huge thanks to Pepe and Jose, Polo and Ligia, Richard and Richard Jr., Jose Luis, Leo, Roberto, Hubert and Monica, and Mafer and Carlos.

There’s a romance to Carmen Estate that’s hard to separate from the coffee itself.

Planted high in Paso Ancho at 1,900 metres, Carmen Estate’s Geisha spent its first few years struggling against the cold and wind. By 2013, there was finally enough fruit to taste it properly, and the promise was already there.
Thirteen years later, those same trees are producing something extraordinary.
Grown in rich volcanic soil and slowly processed by Jean Paul Langenstein, this natural Geisha is overflowing with tropical fruit while holding onto everything that makes the variety so beautiful: perfume, clarity and elegance.
