We are proud to be supporting Miskanawah for the fourth consecutive year. Guided by Indigenous teachings, Miskanawah offers culturally based, supportive services to people in the Calgary area as they strengthen their circles of self, family, community, and culture.

With Canada’s National Day for Truth and Reconciliation falling on September 30, we couldn’t think of a better month to spotlight Miskanawah and the work they do with children, youth, and families across Calgary.

Every meatball special pizza sold this month puts $5 toward Miskanawah’s programs. We are grateful to have been operating on this land since opening our doors in 1979, situated on the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi and the people of Treaty 7, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut’ina, and the Iyarhe Nakoda Nations of Bearspaw, Chiniki and Good Stoney. We also acknowledge this territory is home to the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of the Métis Nation of Alberta Districts 5 & 6.

Since 1979, we’ve been feeding our NW neighbourhood on game days, family dinners, post-practice meals, and a lot of nights that didn’t need a reason.

We’ve been nominated for Best of the ‘Burbs N.W. in Avenue Calgary’s 2027 Best Restaurants Readers’ Choice, and we’re calling on our amazing customers to vote for us.

This month’s Giving Pizza is the Nick’s Special, in support of James Lemonade Stand. As with all our monthly Giving Pizzas, $5 from every Nick’s Special sold, dine-in or take-away, will be donated to James Lemonade Stand.

James Lemonade Stand was created in memory of James, a little boy who passed away from cancer in 2023, to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer, while supporting children and families facing their own cancer journey. What began as a small family fundraiser has grown into an annual community event, with this year’s fundraiser taking place September 6, 2026, at Evanston Community Park.

This one is personal for us. During his treatment, James would come to Nick’s after his radiation appointments at the Cancer Centre here in NW Calgary; hungry, tired, and always asking for steak. Over time, those lunches became a tradition for James and his family, and in the middle of an incredibly hard season, Nick’s was somewhere James could just be a kid again.

One of his family’s most treasured memories is from one of his last visits, when he sat and talked with Nick. Nick passed away on July 30, 2023. James passed away less than three weeks later, on August 17. We like to think Nick was there to greet him again, just like he greeted everyone who ever walked through our doors.
