July New Coffees!
This month, while the party's on, we celebrate three long-term relationship coffees from our various eras!

💛 Colombia El Obraje Pablo Guerrero Geisha Washed
This is the third variety we brought in this season from Pablo, a good steward of the land who conserves 75% as natural forest, fostering biodiversity which contributes to the excellent soil and hence coffee quality. The farm is very well designed with abundant resources to optimize coffee plant growth and harvesting, and reflects Pablo's architectural expertise and love for his land and people!

💚 Colombia Wilson Rosero Caturra Washed
He was the first producer we worked with from Arboleda, Narino, from 8 years ago. There are many safety challenges in the area so we haven't been able to get his coffees for a long time, so it makes us extra excited to get coffee from him and support his work again, serving this comfort cup with nice body!

❤️ Colombia Granje Paraiso 92 Wilton Benitez Pink Bourbon Inoculated Anaerobic Washed
This is a fan favourite coffee we have been serving annually for 6 years! We love creating signature espresso-based drinks with this vibrant coffee, as well as serving as a life-changing milk drink!

June New Coffees!

In the spirit of celebrating the love of our father figures this month, our flight will tell the tales of a Father-Daughter bond, and of a special project mentored by an industry grandfather-figure. We also taste through 3 processes: Washed, Honey, and Natural!

💛 Colombia Francy's 4 Rarities Washed
Francy, the eldest of 5 daughters of Fidencio Castillo,
grew up on her father's coffee farm, and pursued agronomy and sensory training, before loaning land from her father to grow new and rare varieties. This field blend is the result of her innovation - combining Geisha, Pink Bourbon, Sidra, Wush Wush, bringing complex florals and fruit notes for a structured and unique cup.

💚 Colombia Fidencio's Caturra/Colombia Honey
In contrast to his daughter Francy's new rare varieties, Fidencio strongly believes in the strength and quality of his established plants of more conventional Caturra and Colombia varieties, and with the honey process, gives us an uber-sweet, well-rounded cup with comforting character.

❤️ Ethiopia Gesha Village Bench Maji Natural
Made possible by chasing the root of gesha coffee and Ethiopian national Rachel Samuel with her partner Adam Overton, under the mentorship of Willem Boot, whom we respect as one of the grandfather figures of specialty coffee. This coffee is delicious with a floral nuance, complex fruit notes of mandarin, acai berry (or a combination of blueberry, black currant, black grape), with milk chocolate type sweetness.

Meet Emerson Narvaez from Finca El Turpial in Nariño!

Featured on our May Coffee Flight, Emerson's natural-process Laurina is truly an unforgettable cup, bringing incredible texture, candy-like notes of Strawberry, Mint, Floral, and Watermelon which continue to open up as the cup cools.

Emerson grew up learning from his father’s coffee farm. Though he initially didn't imagine following his father's footstep, choosing to pursue other paths -- working as a soldier, builder, and baker; life eventually led him back to coffee! Introduced to specialty coffee through a cooperative, he became deeply committed to the craft and became a Q Grader to discern and enhance quality.

He searched for a new farm, though most were beyond his financial reach, he eventually found a property that met his criteria despite significant obstacles. Situated at high altitude, it lacked electricity, running water, and road access, reachable only by horseback. However, recognizing its strategic location near the Pacific and its unique microclimate, Emerson saw its potential. He began experimenting with various processes and cultivars, including SL28, SL34, Laurina, Pink Bourbon, Gesha, Wush Wush, and Sudan Rume, carefully observing how each adapted to the farm’s altitude and environment.

The Laurina variety is sought after for its low caffeine content (50–60% less than average) and unique profile. It thrives at high elevations, producing a refined cup with mild acidity, delicate floral and fruity notes, and a smooth, balanced sweetness.

This cup is competition-worthy! Emerson had a unique vision of the land and the climate, making rare varieties like this Laurina thrive, giving us an unforgettable cup!

This coffee is available on May Tasting Menu at our physical shops, or as beans on our website, roast-to-order!

A competition-worthy coffee grown by visionary producer from El Turpial - Emerson Narvaez! Forced from their original farm due to violence, Emerson found a high altitude remote land near the Pacific with ideal soil and microclimate for coffee growing. Lacking electricity, running water, and road, reachable only by horseback riding, the challenge is huge but the coffee quality thrives here - this Laurina is one of the most unique and unforgettable bean we have tasted!

April New Coffees!
We are fuelled by dreams! This month, we feature coffees from visionary producers with big dreams!

💛 Pablo Guerrero Pink Bourbon Washed
Last month we featured the Typical variety from Pablo, and we now have his Pink Bourbon, with a new array of delicate fruity notes, and similar silky texture. Pablo's 92-ha family farm historically produced grains, and when economic climate changed, Pablo turned to coffee growing despite naysayers doubting crop success at such high elevation. Pablo distinctly remembered from childhood of 2 coffee trees on the farm that he picked delicious cherries from, so he followed his vision, and the world-renowned Hacienda El Obraje was created.

💚 Colombia Funes Town Blend Washed
Funes is an emerging coffee-growing town led by Mayor Jamez Cundar, who is working to improve local livelihoods driven by specialty coffee economy. Traditionally farming beans, wheat, and onions, the community now grows coffee with support from a town-sponsored nursery distributing 120,000 seedlings annually. This blend reflects vision, hope, and the courage of a small town with big dreams!

❤️ Costa Rica Volcan Azul Alejo Castro SL-28 Anaerobic Natural
Alejo's ancestors planted some of the first specialty coffee in Costa Rica in the early 1900s with the aim to produce the best coffee in the world. With over 200 years of family tradition in trading coffee, Alejo's mission for the farm has been exclusively focused on improving coffee quality while making a positive impact on the environment. Alejo plants new varietals annually and prepares the soil by assessing varietal densities. On top of all, he also focuses on protecting rainforests, avoiding pesticides, producing honey, and planting shield trees. We love Alejo's coffees so much that he has become a household name in our SxF community.

Coffee producers are really stewards of the land! - This month we share three coffee stories of farmers who love, respect, and care for the land and its inhabitants!

💛 Pablo Guerrero Typica Washed
World-renowned Hacienda El Obraje is truly a paradise, with Pablo's background in architecture reflected in the clean and organized farm! It grows beautifully healthy coffee plants by preserving 75% of the land as natural forest reserve for biodiversity, and intentionally employing local seniors as cherry pickers, plus building a network of roads for their ease of access. This coffee is exceptionally silky and clean, and we simply cannot stop drinking it!

💚 Kenya Rungeto Karimikui AA Washed
The smallholder farmers grow coffee and vegetables on their 1-hectare, nutrient-dense family farms, and at harvest time handpick ripe coffee cherries.  After transporting to the washing station, the factory team manually sorts and processes the beans, washing them with the abundant and clean freshwater nearby. The resulting cup captivates us season after season, with butterscotch like sweetness!

❤️ Indonesia West Java Frinsa Estate Lactic Natural
Java Frinsa Estate was built with a clear mission: to produce world-class Indonesian coffee while restoring and protecting the highland environment of West Java. Founded in response to landslides and deforestation, the project prioritizes long-term land health through shade-grown cultivation (by planting avocado and jackfruit), soil regeneration, waste composting, and careful water treatment. This lot was fermented with Lactobacillus to encourage distinct sweet fruity flavours!
