Sometimes the problem isn't what you can see. 🙈

We found a valve connecting to the heat exchanger completely blocked with scale inside an ECM Mechanika Slim. It blocked heat from getting through entirely.

When is the last time you checked your water filter under the sink? 💧👀
If you had to think about it, it's probably time to replace it.

Water filtrations are the ultimate "set it and forget it" solution. The problem is, most people forget the replacing part too. And an old filter means unfiltered hard water flowing straight into your espresso machine and causing serious problems.

Your machine gets serviced every 2-3 years. Your water filter should be getting attention even more regularly than that.

Not sure what your gauge is telling you? Here’s the cheat sheet:

✅ 1.0 – 1.5 bar — your machine is fully heated, you’re ready to go

⚠️ 0 bar — not heated properly, something’s off

🚨Over 1.5 – 2.0 bar — pressure too high, needs attention

The needle is monitoring the internal pressure of the steam boiler in real time. If you notice something’s off, bring your machine in and we can take a look!

Never let your boiler heat up empty! ❌

No water = the heating element overheats and burns out. It's heartbreaking especially when it happens to a brand-new machine, isn't it? 😭

The fix is very simple:
Turn on ➡ run a small amount of water through ➡ then heat up

Whether it's the very first time you're turning on a new machine or you've just flushed all the water out for cleaning, always make sure water is flowing through the boiler before it starts heating up.

Does dark roast have more caffeine?

Many people assume dark roast is stronger because it tastes bolder. Actually, roast level has very little impact on caffeine. The roasting process mainly changes the flavour, not the amount of caffeine inside the bean.

So when choosing your coffee, think less about caffeine and more about the flavours you enjoy!
