A little processing story time…

So today I wanted to finish off a tractor of chickens. Easy enough. I finally received my replacement fingers for my plucker; watched half of one YouTube video, I totally felt ready…

I was not. First was the treasure hunt for the right tools as of course Aaron is away. Once I had my goodies I thought this is too easy.

Well after jamming my fingers in places I can only imagine some sort of small child like hands can reach but require the strength of Hulk himself. Not as easy as the youtube i watched. I guess we skipped this part.

The part the YouTube video didn’t mention was you gotta have them bolts back on tight or else you and your already scalded and be headed chicken are going nowhere.

Now, I am not new to hand plucking; in fact I spent probably an extra hour trying to Jimmy rig this thing I took apart and it was now up to only me and my stubbornness to will it all back together because I’m not hand plucking all these chickens…

Got it working I was so pleased. But by this time I’m already 4 coffees in and usually don’t make an espresso at 3pm but I go to do what I started.

The part I’m used to… processing.. golden. I didn’t even take a break. Put all my chickens in the fridge as fast as I could because Magnus was now on his 3rd stolen chicken foot.

I’m tired. But that good tired. I single handedly managed to pull it off, wasps, wrenches and almost tears lol.

So now for evening chores, package up these chickens all nicely tomorrow and gear up to do it all over again in a few days.

Oh and the pack of fingers was a pack of 50. That’s not enough fingers to replace all in the plucker; cause I only ordered the wrong size twice I thought I’d short change myself on the third try just for fun… 🤦‍♀️.

Again, I wouldn’t change this for anything else in the world.

I’ve got this little duo up for grabs!

Hatched July 20, the white/splash is a sweet but already crowing satin silkie.

I’ve paired him up with a chickie hatched same day but I have no idea if it will be hen or roo.

Only asking one purple bill for the two. (Must go together). Odds to have a hen are 50/50! Better than lotto 6/49! 😆

Please feel free to message for details :)

Got in a little round of Cornish, but my plucker fingers are worn so plucker on standby so I can finish the rest of the batch this week.

After that hopefully I’ll have smaller chickens for everyone wanting!

Slowly catching up my last Cornish left the brooders last week. I only have a small brooder with some silkie and showgirls growing up in the shop now.

Till next season or like January lol😆

I feel today is a good day to share a post from my personal page.

It’s that important to me. This is a small page that many of you have grown to like, love and share my posts.

I value all of you, please know that.

Today is a day where we should remember the fights we are all personally fighting. I’m here to listen if I can and I will never judge you.

Let’s remember and simply be there for one another.

Shared from my personal page;

September 10 is su***de prevention day. This always hits close to home; way too close.

We all know people are struggling. Be kind, be patient, give that hug and tell someone they are loved.

Let’s talk more. Keep talking because I value your life and well being.

To everyone out there please keep fighting, use every last resource and moment to just lay your head down; say you’ve done your best; and tmrw is truly a new day.

I’m always here to chat; please know that.

Well maybe they’ll have it mowed by 2027 🤣

To me I just see potential for more goats; Aaron might disagree though, Gus has been eating/heabutting too many of his trees 🌳

We filled some freezer space and got some orders done! Yaye. 5 turkeys down more to go.

These turkeys got raised in such a beautiful way. They were on higher ground on account of all our wet. This year they preferred a mix of grains, pellets and of course grass and leafy greens.

Turkeys are such a curious being and to raise one to host in special occasions seems to be quite fitting.

We got our Christmas dinner out of this batch at 24lbs. Silently I am so grateful I didn’t have to tackle 38lbs turkey this year.

And if you were debating buying that turkey cone; do it.

Happy turkey days ahead friends 💕

Who else is slowly knocking spring list things off? 🤣

Today we finally added the cover to my new silkie/showgirl run after we had a good friend come by and help raise the coop (it was almost on the ground), cut wood, and we added mulch to the decimated run.

Next thing on the spring list of things will be getting winter stuff ready 🫠

I’ve got about 5 chickens too many in this run but I have growouts learning from the docile silkies :)
